Alex Smith Traded to Chiefs

Well, it looks like the deal is done.

https://twitter.com/intent/user?scre...w_p=tweetembed

Jay Glazer @JayGlazer
49ers have completed a trade with the Chiefs for Alex Smith, tho can't be official til March 12. Chiefs really made a commitment to Smith

Jay Glazer @JayGlazer
Deal has been agreed upon between Chiefs and 49ers. Compensation unclear but I'm told again Chiefs have made a clear commitment to Smith.

Not saying they ALL would have been Alex or better, but you also can't ignore there are reasons why teams like the Jets, Browns, Jaguars, etc; are disasters at QB despite picking high in the draft.... and not average, but disasters.

And the Chiefs hired the right HC... so to a large extent you have to say you trust Reid's assessment and to choose a stop gap and not draft a QB that season.

OTOH, I think it's wrong to assume each of those QBs has exactly the same experience under Reid and an organization that was trying to quickly get back to mediocrity and didn'thave a dumpster fire of a roster, as opposed to the organizations that seemingly wallow in the dumpster fire.

It's probably also wrong to assume once they signed him to 4 years or whatever it was, they were going to immediately draft a guy the next year anyway.... they probably handcuffed themselves to a large extent by their own loyalty to Smith (in other words, you could say they committed themselves to 4 years of mediocrity with that signing, as opposed to finding a 1 year stop gap and maybe being bad for another year).

I find it odd to give Andy so much credit as a coach, while also giving him so little credit as a talent evaluator.

Or ignoring the fact that none of these QBs listed were the answer either.

Can anyone here with a straight face claim that we win a Super Bowl from 2013-2017 with any of these QBs?

No, you absolutely cannot. In fact, knowing what we know now, we are most likely in worse position today if we take a chance on any one of these guys.

Y'all wanna go back in time and take Carr or Garoppolo? Lol. They're probably both still in KC to this day. Dak Prescott? We for damn sure don't draft Mahomes in the next draft. Any of those other names probably extend the Save Our Chiefs days by another couple calendar years.

Carson Palmer was the only other viable option so there is no point in complaining about Alex Smith. He wasn't Mr. Right, but he ****ed us until he showed up.

The only thing we know is that no one other than Alex Smith was the QB for the Chiefs and inserting another QB in his spot that failed in another situation and saying he would have failed here isn't knowledge of shit.

There are a number of QBs that showed success under Reid in Philly that all turned out to be dogshit on other teams. There was even a time where Alex Smith was complete dogshit on another team before the Chiefs where he was upgraded to middling... weird.

By all means, feel free to make the case that we'd be better off now if we'd have decided to take a chance on EJ Manuel.

This list is full of turds, dude.

Alex Smith had more combined experience and talent than anyone on this list. If Reid couldn't make him elite, he damn sure couldn't make Derek Carr elite.

This is an edit after I quoted you so I'll address this too.

Smith had clearly turned a corner in his last couple years in San Fran. He was no longer dogshit by 2011.

He wasn't a turd. Stop it.

You can call him a dud, maybe. A turd, though? No. I won't have it!

You know he'd still be here right now if we had drafted him back in 2014. Your proposal is to draft Carr in 2014 and hope that pussy leads us to the Super Bowl.

Yeah, he did catch lightning in a bottle ala Flacco, but he was on our roster. He started games for us. Andy let him go.

I trust Andy to make that call.

17 TDs and 3100 yards. I'm amazed the 49ers were even willing to give him up in a trade.

8th ranked defense, 8th ranked rushing, 30th ranked passing. It's a wonder Smith could even stand up straight. His back was pretty ****ed up from carrying that team.

3100 yards, 17 TDs and 5 INTs on 445 passes.

That's not dogshit, bro.

His YPA that season was 7.1. Mahomes and Brady's last year was 7.4.

Dogshit was Rex Grossman that same year. He attempted 458 passes for 3100 yards, 16 TDs and 20 INTs. Tarvaris Jackson. Josh Freeman.
