Alex Smith Traded to Chiefs

Well, it looks like the deal is done.

https://twitter.com/intent/user?scre...w_p=tweetembed

Jay Glazer @JayGlazer
49ers have completed a trade with the Chiefs for Alex Smith, tho can't be official til March 12. Chiefs really made a commitment to Smith

Jay Glazer @JayGlazer
Deal has been agreed upon between Chiefs and 49ers. Compensation unclear but I'm told again Chiefs have made a clear commitment to Smith.

And if he plays well enough that we lose another 2nd rounder, it's either that he's really excelling in this offense or he's managed his way to not **** up.

In Andy Reid typical offenses, I don't thin the second option can really happen, so until he receives a contract extension I view him as a stop gap with the chance to become the guy.
What's better for the Chiefs in 2015:

1) Having players drafted with the second round picks in 2013 and 2014

2) Having gone 8-8 and 9-7 with Alex Smith at QB before cutting him loose?

That's where I'm coming from.

It's all moot if Alex Smith elevates his play (maintains efficiency while being less risk-avoiding). I just will have to see that to believe it.

The Alex Smith we saw at the end of Saturday's first half? If he's that guy, consistently, everything worked out. I just can't believe that until I see it... too much evidence to the contrary.

I hope that happens. I just don't have faith in it happening.

those 2nd round picks of the last four years are really tipping the scales in our favor now. Fact is we never hit on 2nd round picks and I dont know why you expect that to change anytime soon

What a load of horseshit.

You ask a question that can't be answered, yet you've already determined the outcome, unless its different than you expect.

Your posts on this subject are convoluted at best and outright dumb at worst.

Yup.

197 yards per game, 1.0625 TDs per game, 61 percent completion rate, bottom 10 passing attack (while paired with a top 10 running game and historically good run D/elite overall defense)

Yes, Alex Smith was the primary reason for the 49ers' success in 2011. He led them.

By this line of reasoning, the move of acquiring another team's backup QB to be our starter is going to fail, likely in a disastrous way.

Honestly te best thing for the chiefs is to win games while trying to find the guy at qb.

And using this logic, do you trust the chiefs to draft and develop a qb?

we arent hitting impact players in the 2nd round whether you like it or not

hell we cant even get an impact player in the 1st round. Baby steps, let's get a first round pick in the next few years that actually makes an impact like some of these other teams seem to get. Then we can worry about nailing 2nd round picks.

This team (sans 1 or 2 guys) is still riding the foundation of impact players drafted by Herm ****ing Edwards. That's not changing anytime soon as long as we keep going with the Eric Fishers of the world.

Most teams don't. Draft expectations are really nuts nowadays. Most people don't realize that the majority of draft picks only last three years in the league. At the same time they think guys like Jon McGraw (for example) suck balls even though he lasts ten years because no one can beat him out.

I don't know if I'd call it trust, but it would be nice to see them TRY that process. Since they've never done that, at least in my timespan as a fan.

Winning more games now is fine, as long as it doesn't affect the ability to find the guy they need at QB to win a ton of games long-term and built the team to win a ton of games long-term.

Tyler Bray? Hes guaranteed to make the 53 at this point. If he was going to be on the ps, Stanzi wouldn't of been cut.

Clearly he has all the tools. He just needs experience and coaching and some time. Say, maybe two years worth?

That's just ****ing dumb. "Trying" something isn't a sound philosophy.

"Oh, we've never taken a kicker in the first round. Lets try that this time!".

Dumb.

An owner hires a GM and coach for their philosophy, whether its an offensive or defensive scheme or in the case of a GM, team building philosophy. An owner doesn't hire someone in order to "try" something different.

I ****ing swear, the Chiefs have the most DELUSIONAL fans in the NFL. Since 2007, they've had a pair of 2-14 seasons, a pair of 4-12 seasons and haven't won a playoff game in 20 years, yet it's "Super Bowl or Bust" within four years.

This team was a laughing stock among players, agents and in league circles. Hunt hired the best possible head coaching candidate, the best possible personnel man and acquired the best possible QB to lead this team, yet butt****s like you clamor for Carson Palmer, Matt Flynn, Kevin Kolb and Geno Smith.

It's hilarious how seriously you take your dumb opinion.
