Let's talk about the Chiefs top 30 visits

The KCSN guys put out a video last night discussing how odd the Chiefs top 30 visits are.

Keep in mind, we don't know all 30, but more than 20 have been reported, so there are enough to paint a picture.

Kingsley Suamataia is by far the best prospect they've reportedly had visit, which is odd considering he's a consensus top 50 player at best. He's the only guy they've met with that I could see them taking at 32.

The other two top prospects they've met with are Michael Hall Jr. and Marshawn Kneeland.

Almost every other year the Chiefs have met with earlier 1st round guys with character issues or health concerns that could fall.

So they were wondering why the difference this year? Are they planning to trade up and they're just keeping everything hush hush? Or are the best guys they've looked at in that range where they plan to trade down?

Top-30 visits really aren't for anything other than gaining information on players you feel you need a bit more work on, whether it's medical, character, intelligence, small school, drills not matching tape, etc. I don't think it gives any indication of preference nor could it be a reliable indicator of who they'll draft.

At the end of the day, we know the Chiefs generally don't tip their hand too much when it comes to prospects. We also know every NFL team puts in a tremendous amount of work on all the prospects so any visit data I consider a bit moot. I'd read more into who they choose to meet with at the Combine than any other source but even then it's not a guarantee of anything.

Yes, I'm well aware of the purpose of top 30 visits. And every year, the Chiefs have gained information on guys that could possibly fall in the 1st with those kinds of question marks. It's just odd that there's been nobody like Mitchell, Newton, etc.

There's an obvious difference between this year and basically every other year of the Veach era, and it could obviously mean absolutely nothing, but it's worth discussing.

I could see KC might wanting to compress the draft into rounds 2-3-4 and picking up an extra pick or two in those rounds but like Kccrow said, it is just to get more information on a potential prospect.

But you'd think there'd be a few 1st round prospects that they'd want to get more information on, like every other year. It's just a little weird that it isn't the case this year.

Feels like they know BTJ is the classic player they don’t think has any chance of being an option (McDuffie is the outlier). Would be shocked if he’s there in the early 20’s.

McMillan and Baker are 2nd/3rd rd WR’s that need more homework done so I get it. They’re harder prospects to have in their situations.

Lot of work on 2nd round players this year. Makes me wonder if a trade down is a realistic possibility

You cant put a lot of stock in it but I'd assume some of the ones they havent publicized are higher round guys they want to keep under wraps. They might not want to tip their hand. And some of the guys may have secretly worked out with Mahomes. Didn't a picture of Bowers just surface? He (Mahomes) may be a tactical weapon in that regard.
