Agreed. He'd make it to about the 3 and get stonewalled.

But if he makes it to the 5 or 4 and steps out with ~10 seconds left?

This is all useless speculation, but like Clay said, hopefully Pat watches this on film and learns from it. That's the silver lining here.

I was betting that reid told him that.

Makes sense

See that.

Pat will learn.

Next year, he'll hit the out and on the next play, we're in the SB.

Is it any more difficult for Mahomes to throw the ball accurately for 30 yards as opposed to 10?

I'm not following the logic here. Are we talking about an easier FG?

Right there with you, Brother. You’re at the 10 with 10 secs and no timeouts. Guess what, you still kick the FG

10 seconds is enough for a jump ball or a slant to be thrown.

I get that, but it’s also enough time for something awful to happen and you get nothing. Kick the FG, go to OT, and pray you win the toss.....or that Brady decides during that last possession that he is no longer interested in Super Bowling anymore.......

Eh, from the 10, you can run a conventional play. From the 30,it's basically a short hail Mary

I didn't have a problem with kicking the FG, but to be fair giving it a shot from the 10 would be way easier. You could actually scheme up a play to put everyone in the endzone and try to fool the defense in some way or another. Some kind of quick out, fade or slant where you take advantage of a 1 on 1 matchup.

From the 30 it's basically everyone run to the endzone and try to get open. They have 7 guys back there and can see the WRs coming all the way.

Every kick butker took at the half was from the 30 exactly. He made every one perfectly.

That ball was planted at the 29 iirc.

In other words I think they were confident in the fg, so noi reason to risk something happening and time running out.

I think it's just tougher for the Pats to defend. Rubs, etc. all can open up a bit more from closer on and the ball gets there quicker making it tougher to defend. Pretty much just makes taking an extra shot less risky, at least from my standpoint.

Easier to defend a 30 yard pass and harder to defend a quick hitting slant or out from the 10.

I think it was the right call at the time. Better to get 50/50 deal (OT) than risk running out of time/INT, even if there was <20% for that.

Everything in the endzone would have been covered forcing Pat to throw it away or throw underneath and risk coming up short with no way to stop the clock.

This isn't a dis on Pat, but he has a tendency with not throwing the ball away due to his competitiveness. He will get that under control as his career progresses.

While I would have preferred to go for the TD,I definitely understand why Andy didn't.
