Breakdown: 50 Passing TD Seasons

I was curious about how much time in the league and/or career starts Manning and Brady had when they had their 50 passing TD seasons. Here is what I found out through my research.

When Manning threw 55 touchdowns, it was his 15th season, and that season was his career games and career starts #225 - #240

When Brady threw 50 touchdowns, it was his 8th season, and that season was his career games #97 - #112 and career starts #95 - #110

When Mahomes threw for 50 touchdowns, it was his 2nd season, and that season was his career games and career starts #2 - #17

Just think about that for a moment. When their 50 touchdown regular seasons were over, Manning and Brady both had at least 110 career starts.* Mahomes did it in his first full season as a starter, which is only his 2nd year in the NFL.

I am pretty certain that no QB will ever throw 50 touchdowns in their first 17 career starts ever again.

Yeah. Maybe I should have been clear. I only counted games they appeared in. Manning started every game since day one, and Brady played in one game his rookie year and he played in 14 games his second season.

That's why I said it was career games #2 - #17 for Mahomes. But he did play in that one game last season.

Yeah it’s crazy. When Marino threw 48, it was his 2nd season, like Mahomes. However, Marino started 8 or 9 games his rookie season.

I like Baker Mayfield. But obviously he wont touch Mahomes numbers in 17 starts. Hes at what, 14 starts with 27TDs? He'll probably get to 30 tho.

Prior to Brady setting the record at 50 TD passes in '07, Manning held the record with 49 set in '04 season. Manning then reset the record at 55 in '13.

At the time the records of 50 and 55 where set, Manning and Brady were clearly in a pissing contest that both of their teams and organizations bought into and actively participated. I can recall both teams practically abandoning the run game when they got in goal-to-go situations.

I didn't get the impression that the Chiefs were pressing for any record this year. And, the last TD of last week's game, a run instead of a pass attempt, would kind of prove my point. Which might indicate that 50 is just the tip of the iceberg. If the Chiefs can build a reliable defense, which would allow the Chiefs to win more games comfortably... destroying the record is a high probability.

something a lot of people forget about too is that he is only 23 years old, in relation the offensive rookie of the year ( assuming its baker Mayfield) is 23 years old.

I'm not so sure about that, half the teams we played took their sweet time getting down the field. Of course in bigger blowouts you might be right because taking the pedal of the metal is a thing.
