If I had to guess and kinda just simplify that critique... I would say that his flaws are a mix of being too strong and knowing it - therefore artificially altering his stroke, trying to be delicate/fancy and coming off stiff - and he probably hasn't regularly practiced in a looong time.

Anyway...

GET OFF THE KIDS BACK CURMUDGEON HE'S A MUSICAL PRODIGY/QB SOUL CRUSHING DEMON.

He articulates very well, I will say that. If he used arm weight more to his advantage, he could have a much easier time using the bounceback of the piano keys to do the staccato for him. The fact that he plays so flat-wristed seems to me that he's doing all that work from fingers. Yes, you need active and energetic fingers to play good staccato, but he's gotta be doing more work than he needs to be doing. It's not efficient playing, which is preventing him from doing some REALLY cool things in his sound, like producing a solid forte with absolutely zero tension in his posture or his arms.

From listening, it appears he's a very intelligent individual who discovered voice leading completely on his own. It's a shame that he hasn't had more formal training, because this guy could have been REALLY good.

You had me intrigued until American Idol.

It's probably a good thing you divorced her.
