I guess if you never eat fried chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, etc... then sure. I found it to be incredibly basic, especially for the hype and how busy they were all the time.... but sure, if you want deep fried American food (that might be redundant), they have it.

I found it flavorless and it does not seem to be a minority opinion

Correct. My wife and I went once years ago and have never been back even though it’s not far from us at all. Flavorless is exactly what we recall.

It looks bland in the pictures but on YouTube the reviewers seem to be orgasming over it. Maybe I shouldn't rely too much on bellend attention seekers who make their money from over the top takes on things they experience. I guess I just want to try some hearty, traditional American grub, even if it's not really too dissimilar from the stuff we have here in some country pubs.

Stroud's exists on a reputation from yesteryear, much the same as Bryant's and Gates both do as well. Nostalgia can sustain a restaurant for a long while. We still get Strouds about once a year and I always thoroughly enjoy it. Feel like shit afterwards but I think I'll always want to keep going even though I'm sure there's a handful of places that probably do fried chicken and mashed potatoes better. I might fight someone if they say somewhere else has better gravy though

Age is definitely a big reason I'd never plan on going again, or maybe it's just eating healthier overall... but yeah, I'd hate myself for several hours after eating all the deep fried stuff.

Agree with all this but Gates lives on for me because I buy the sauce and put it on plates from places who have better meat. I have a great neighborhood bbq spot in LA. They have a great pit master, but their sauce is a tragedy. To their credit they don't get mad when I bring a little bottle of Gates for myself into their joint.

The best items aren't fried chicken. Steaks are great but my personal favorite is the catfish also the salmon is very good. Pork chops are nice along with chicken fried steak is hard to beat. I could eat the hamburger steak with mashed potatoes every day its that good. You sure you weren't at KFC?

I guess I could comment why comment what you don't know. Most people that go to Strouds don't get the chicken. Unless you have the whole family and get the family chicken dinner. When they quit raising and butchering there own chickens it became just fried chicken. I can fry my own Hudson or Tyson chicken bird.

Let's not crucify the guy. If you go on Stroud's social media the first thing they mention is their "award winning pan-fried chicken" so if you've only been there a few times it's not unlikely that you'll be going there specifically for the fried chicken. It's what they're known for and what they clearly want to be known for.

I'm not crucifrying him but they do have a nice menu to look at. Why criticism if you don't like chicken. I don't like seafood because I'm allergic to shellfish. My wife loves shellfish so I just order what seafood that doesn't have a shell and hope it isn't cross contaminated.
