I think Jason Garrett might be the most overrated coach in football.
I don't think being under him all this time did Dak any favors. I think his talent level ceiling could've been Russell Wilson-like. I don't think he's there, and I doubt he ever will get there now. |

Wilson was the last guy we'll ever see come out of college with his tool-set who gets overlooked because of his height, IMO. He had a damn strong arm, plus mobility and exceptional accuracy. If he has Dak's build, he's a first overall pick. Russell Wilson is an INCREDIBLE talent. No, there's not a scenario where Prescott is that guy, IMO. Could he have been better than he is? Sure, but you're putting Dak into first ballot HOF territory. Inner-circle kind of players, IMO. Russ will end up being among the top 20 QBs of all time when his career is over and there will be arguments to put him in the top 10 (good ones at that). Prescott never had that ceiling. And besides, let's not act like Wilson toiling away under Pete Carroll did him any favors.

But the rise of the spread and shotgun offenses that help these shorter QBs scan the field and see their weapons even with massive people in front of them, not to mention the continued development of timing offenses where you're making a pre-snap read and throw to a spot, make height so incredibly secondary. 15 years ago I think height DID still matter. You needed to be a true magician to succeed while taking snaps from under center and looking for targets as they came open. But going forward, I gotta figure even 5'9'' can probably function. I mean at SOME point there's a threshhold, but you watch guys like Murray and Russ scorch the earth and I'm damn sure not willing to put a hard number on it.

Even though they'd just given Matt Flynn a huge contract, Pete publicly stated that if Wilson was better in camp, he'd be the starter and I distinctly remember people here on CP stating that Pete was full of shit. The NFL has a bad habit of dismissing players because they didn't or don't meet "Ideal" standards. Fortunately, that's changing a bit at the QB position, as we've seen Lamar Jackson go in the first and Kyler Murray go #1 overall. I'm not stating that either of those guys will win Super Bowls or head to the HOF someday, just that the NFL is looking at these guys a little differently, which has been great for the game. |

If he can keep up this torrid pace, this season will do wonders for his career. It'll show everyone that he was able to put up gaudy stats this whole time, he just never did because he was handcuffed by Carroll and had an all-time defense for his first handful of seasons in the league. |

I just think Dak has top 5, elite type QB talent as well but will likely never reach that level now. |

I think Russell is awesome. The most interesting deal though is that Seattle front office has given him a fairly tough negotiation on both of his contracts, and they wanted to draft Mahomes to replace Russ. They have a good eye for QB talent. It’s just crazy to me that they were looking to move on from Russ right as he entered his prime years.

When I think of Jason Garrett 'overrated' would be one of the absolute last words I'd come up with. Dude is mostly known for clapping and Jerry Jones being too stubborn to fire him.

Garrett had that one monster year as OC under Wade Phillips. He interviewed for like 8 HC jobs that offseason but ultimately Jerry paid him a shitload of money to stay on. Then Wade got fired and Garrett took over. Jerry never looked back.

I'd take Jackson over Prescott in a heart beat. If you want an 8-8 team then pick Dak, but I'm looking for "wins" with lessor talent around the qb. So, it's easy for me even though Jackson doesn't come across as the brightest candle on the cake, nor does he have the arm talent as Dak, but he has a higher ceiling over Dak.
