Coinflip’s impact is frustrating, but the Chiefs had a ton of chances to win the game and they didn’t get the job done.

Yeah, the OT rules are better. We did end the season with a lot of ties. But... The emphasis on offense brings it back to a coin flip which I hate. All the talking heads are talking about only because I think they felt gripped that we didn't see a showdown. They seem to be a huge advantage for a team that has a great defense.

I don't get why the NFL doesn't adopt a very simple set of rules.
1) Flip the coin. Winner starts from their 20 (no kickoff). 2) If the first team turns it over and the other team scores on their drive, game ends. 3) If the first team scores a FG or TD, then the other team gets one offensive try starting from their own 20 (no kickoff). If the score gets tied again, then they kick off and it goes to sudden death. This would take a lucky kickoff runback out of the equation. It would make sure both offenses get a chance with the ball. Winning the coin flip does still give you an advantage because if you score 7 or 3 and they score 7 or 3, then they kick to you and you start with the ball in sudden death. It's a simple variation of the college rule, just starting on your own 20 instead of their 20 (which, with pro offenses and kickers, is too easy). |

Here is my idea: if the first team to touch the ball scores - the second team gets one chance to beat (not tie) that score.
So it's kind of similar to now, except if the first team kicks a FG, the second team can't kick a FG to tie - they have to score a TD. So in our case Mahomes would have at least had a chance to get a TD+2. If BB had the balls to go for a TD+2, he wins. But then if they miss they lost to a TD+1 - so teams would rarely try imo. If the first team doesn't score - normal sudden death ensues. |

just what i said wiley points out a lot of correct things regarding what i am saying, but he goes too far, almost dictating, that both teams get a crack at the ball. like i stated, make them score a total of 11 points on their first drive, in overtime, then the game can end. I think each team should select the brokedick most responsible for OT. Chiefs select Berry and Pats select **** if I know and then those 2 players until one gives up.

I've always wanted them to allow both offenses to possess the ball one time. Then it goes to sudden death where any score can win the game. Never been a fan of a TD automatically ending it.
I get that the current rule encourages teams to go for the TD over a field goal but if a team is laying up and settling for field goals they don't deserve to win. To be honest, I'd be fine with them saying any score MUST be a TD. No FGs allowed.

They could do a full 10-15 minute overtime period, but if one team gets two scores ahead in that time, game over. Or do 15 minutes, but once the 5 minutes left mark hits if one team has or gains the lead in that last 5 minutes the game ends (that one might be too complicated and lead to dodgy strategies). If tied after that either Sudden Death or College Rules but start at the 35 or 40.

I would like to see something along the lines of:
Standard coin toss rules Team one gets the ball one the 25 yard line (Short Field) with four downs. If they score, the opposing team gets the ball from the same spot and four downs, with a chance to win or tie. If after each possession, the game is still tied, then it continues until a team is the winner. ...Although, as a number have already stated, if we would have just lined up in the correct position, and won the game in regulation, we probably wouldn't even be talking about OT rules anyway... |

Meh, as much as I would have liked to see Mahomes get a chance in OT, if your defense can't get a stop on THREE different 3rd and 10 opportunities, then maybe you don't deserve to win.
