NFL Rumors: Mahomes, Watson atop KC's QB wish list

From SportingNews.com:

http://www.sportingnews.com/nfl/news...j17r8odsobcbca

Quote:
— The Chiefs, who have been linked to most quarterbacks during the 2017 NFL Draft process so far, are in no rush to find a quarterback savior. With Alex Smith slated to be the starter in 2017 but ideally not in 2018, the Chiefs are looking for a passer with the highest upside without needing him to play as a rookie — a dream scenario for a quarterback prospect.

— I believe Patrick Mahomes is the Chiefs' QB1 from what I’ve heard, but Deshaun Watson makes sense as well. They’ll need to trade up for both. If they stay at 27, the one quarterback whom they could shockingly have interest in is Davis Webb of California. They’ve also shown interest in Nathan Peterman and Brad Kaaya, but likely don’t value either as top-two rounders.
Now, the writer of this got all of his info in the article from speaking to FO people and scouts at the combine. You can question the validity, but the Chiefs did meet with all of the players mentioned at the combine.

If this report is accurate, the Chiefs could indeed be on the path to Patrick Mahomes or Deshaun Watson holding up their jersey in 7 weeks in Philadelphia.

Wtf?

I'm willing to give Dorsey and Reid a 2nd QB and about the only veteran that comes to mind that needs to go is Hali and probably DJ. And you want to year it all down over Smith?

Despite some very mediocre drafts the last 4 years this team actually has a good amount of talent.

Even without DJ, Houston, Charles, and most of our D line we were a playoff team.

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

More like 50/50 for one bona fide franchise QB per draft, over the past decade or so.

But I agree that a front office with the acumen to find and acquire one is mandatory.

If Dorsey and Reid missed on Alex like CP seems to think, there's no reason for 2nd chances.

Dorsey I waver on.

Reid, I appreciate his ineffable bond with his players that make them work hard, but nothing about his gameplanning or in-game decision making endears me to him anyway.

I don't think they missed - I think they got exactly what they wanted.

Where I think they missed was drafting behind that spanner.

Reid needs to be a HC and let someone else be OC.

He's a fantastic HC and a piss-poor OC...

I don't really think they missed on Alex Smith. They came into a situation where fans were literally boycotting the team. They needed something to get out of the black hole and that's what they got. Now it's time to go get something bigger and better.

Since 2013 the Chiefs have drafted 3 all pro's. That's the most of any franchise in the league. That's not mediocre.

We are boom or bust in the draft and we got a floater over the plate with Peters...

Wouldn't acquiring talent mean the drafts weren't in fact mediocre?

And that's in the context of picks traded away or taken away. We are loaded with picks this draft, can't ****ing wait.

Exactly.

Alex has got us to the playoffs 3 out of 4 years and got us our first playoff win in how long? Considering how bad we were on offense and the QB position before he got here he's certainly been a decent upgrade and a step in the right direction. No SB or AFCCG so he hasn't done great but certainly not bad.

So they haven't missed on anything. They never claimed he was an elite QB or one of the GOATs. I don't know what some of you guys were expecting.

We can win with this guy until we find someone better so there's nothing to be worried about with the QB position IMO.

And a double digit sack artist/elite pass protecting G in the the draft we didn't have an all pro
