Anyone have an adult tonsillectomy?

Had one this past Monday (3/11) and I gotta say it’s more difficult than I thought it would be. At times the pain has been unbearable, even with Oxy and Tylenol. Combined with lack of sleep and mostly liquid diet and it’s been rough. If you’re thinking about having it done maybe think twice!

I begged for years to have mine removed since they have been enlarged for decades and I get tonsil stones. I have an extra narrow passage way and it has contributed to my sleep apnea. My uvula has been elongated from snoring and touches the back of my throat and tongue.

Doctor told me no way unless I'm having 3-4 tonsil or sinus infections a year. I stopped having 1-2 a year when I moved to AZ.

They told me risk not worth it.

Were you presented with the option of having your tonsils shaved? It's a newer procedure.

Schoo would do it and have his appendix removed on the same day

No, he is afraid they are growing back and says the surgery wasn't worth the almost month long torture he went through.

Yup, went over that procedure and decided removal was best given my circumstances.

Did you wake up 5 minutes into surgery to complain that you're going to have tonsils forever?

I've heard that they can, but i don't know if there is anything truth to that. You'd think that would be a problem for younger people who get the surgery but who knows?

Sounds brutal.

On the bright side that surgery should make it even easier for you jam that M24 exhaust into your throat. (In the closet garage of course. Billay will really enjoy you now.

Truthfully, that surgery is tough on kids and teens so I hope you get better quickly.

Thanks dude. Both my kids had it done in their teens and seemed to handle it pretty well. I know now firsthand that’s it’s a different beast for anyone over 20.

Got it done in my late 20s. Shit was pretty rough. Worse than I expected for sure. I got a cold or something too and kept sneezing and every one felt like a knife to the throat. I no longer get strep though so that’s nice.
