I watched it on my monitor. It was just the main play-by-play camera for most of the first half that was screwed up. The other cameras were fine. At some point during the second quarter they adjusted it.

As I remember, it had rained most of the week in NOLA. Most of the fields in the NFL were in poor condition by the end of the season -- or frozen.

That was not a NFL stadium. It was Tulane. A lot of the early Super Bowls were played in stadiums that wouldn't qualify as a good dump any more. IIRC the field was in bad shape because there were some heavy thunderstorms that morning in New Orleans.

It was and it wasn't. The Saints played there until 1975. But you are right, a lot of the early SBs were played in what today would be considered dumps (Orange Bowl, Metrodome, Rice Stadium).

Went to a game at Rice stadium a few years back and couldn't believe they had played a Super Bowl there. I took my nephews to the game and they refused to believe it.

Yeah, field and turf management back then didn't seem as important as it is now. It was a different time.

The local radio guys were complaining that the NFLPA and the CBA didn't allow players to practice at the facility under coach supervision during the off season, instead of Mahomes having to invite players to practice with him in Texas.

I think it is still a hold over from when players had to have jobs in the off season to live. Now, it doesn't really make sense, due to the amount of money the players make.
