Lots o'peeps get rich when they start slinging trillions around. That old thing about "follow the money" seem applicable once again.

Climate Change is an industry that has to create cash with no product and no demand. Who better to do that than politicians? Bullshit and phony scam salesmen of the highest order. And you get the money from taxpayers.

Nobody disagrees with climate change. It's MAN MADE climate change most have issues with. The climate on this 4 BILLION year old planet has never stayed the same. We've been through countless ice ages and warming periods. Yet, we're supposed to look at what's happened over the last 200 or 2,000 years and flip our shit?

The reality is the climate is going to change. If the past is any indication, it will change much more drastically then what the "man made climate change" models predict. I propose a RED NEW DEAL to fix the climate of Mars. We should tax all companies that participate in space exploration development. Furthermore, we should implement a new tax on ownership of Camaros, pickup trucks, guns, and trailer homes (just because).

Al Gore single handedly did more to harm the public's view of climate science than any other entire group of people.

He made a sensationalist mocumentary with no basis in science, and a bunch of sheep lined up to believe him while a different bunch of sheep lined up to take his gross distortion of climate science as the real deal and decide it's all a hoax.

**** Al Gore. **** media twats who repeat the same style of sensationalist crap. **** politicians who try to use the same style of sensationalist crap to further their own power hungry goals. **** politicians who parrot Rush to further their own power hungry goals.

This. I think it's fair to say that all citizens should draw the line at having a carbon footprint that's any better than Al Gore's, Obama's, Clinton's, or any of the Hollyweird elite who do anything but practice what they preach.

And having a Prius doesn't count.. When my carbon footprint is greater than anybody in Hollyweird's liberal elite, or greater than the worst carbon footprint of all the liberals in congress, call me. Until then, I'm a fossil fuel burning American... IOW, to the liberals in Hollyweird and congress, you go first, and there are no "proportion" adjustments, your footprint has to be less than mine... If you can't, then shut the **** up..

Over the Earth's history there have been times where atmospheric CO2 is much much higher than current or forecast future levels. During the Ordovician-Silurian and the Jurassic-Cretaceous periods CO2 levels were greater than 4000 ppmv (parts per million) and about 2000 ppmv respectively. We're currently at 413 ppm.

https://www.skepticalscience.com/co2...termediate.htm

Projections for the year 2100 range from 475 to 800 ppm if we continue on business as usual, still 5x less than historical levels. It's doubtful technology doesn't improve between now and then that doesn't practically do away with the burning of fossil fuels completely and plants and trees will begin to remove c02 from the atmosphere as soon as we either begin to reduce output or plant more plants and trees.

https://tinyurl.com/y3d2nld6

A lot of people don't realize the earth has its own built in carbon sequestration system. Many plants go much larger in the presence of c02 - it's their fuel (see pic)

As of now Renewable energy has been a massive failure in germany due to the costs associated with energy storage

https://stopthesethings.files.wordpr...q6g4ris_opjFXY

And Canada:

https://www.powerlineblog.com/archiv...een-energy.php

The majority of americans have more important things to worry about than climate change. 68% of americans are unwilling to spend even $10 per month to combat it:

https://jonathanturley.org/2019/03/1...limate-change/

Increased atmospheric carbon will sort itself out via technology and capitalism. Technology for renewable energy storage is rapidly improving and the day the economics are better than fossil fuels the shift will be nearly immediate. Energy production from renewable is already plenty competitive it's the storage that is the problem. Of much greater concern IMO is pollution, plastics etc.

In the meantime the best way to reduce C02 emissions is have fewer children. Having 1 less child has 60 TIMES the impact of going green, buying a tesla, or whatever variety of virtue signaling people are doing next week:

https://www.theguardian.com/environm...fewer-children

Taxpayers as a whole don't contribute to global warming because people that pay taxes are not having enough kids to replace their population. So if you want to bitch about climate change you should also bitch about the massive number of people who continue having kids they can't afford.

Eh, this rock isn't dying in my lifetime. It may be changing faster now than it has n the last few (hundred) years...when we could first actually measure such things, but you cannot sit there with a straight face and say we have any idea what this planet has truly gone through over its approximate 4 billion year history.

And lining the pockets of someone who is simply using it as a get rich quick scheme isn't in my wheelhouse.

If I'm wrong, by all means do a number of ionosphere EMPs, destroy all technology and lets go back to little house on the prairie if you really want to bring this imminent death to a screeching halt.

However on the flip side, you're probably going to want adopt the "strongest will survive" idea, because there is going to be a large scale natural culling. Which ends LOTS of lives sooner than 2050 anyway. Damned if you do, damned if you don't I guess.

If there was ANYTHING legitimate about this, and I mean anything at all, this wouldn't be just a stupid political rallying cry.

Think about it - this would be cause for war. A lot of us are bouncing around in the Chernobyl thread right now, right? And they talk about how the Russians did so much to keep the disaster a secret and cover up potential problems, etc... So imagine if the global diplomatic community knew about the issue with the water tanks potentially exploding, wiping out the other 3 reactors and making Eastern Europe a very quiet neighborhood for the next thousand years. And let's also imagine that Russias response was 'eh, we're not gonna do anything....'

Do you think governments would've just sat there and said "well, I guess that's that?"

Of course not. And that wouldn't be on a cataclysmic scale. If it's true that we're 30 years away from a tipping point and 'all credible climate scientists agree on this front' - are you telling me that we wouldn't have nations gearing up for war? That no allied front would go out there and say "Okay China - you can fix this shit or we can bomb you into oblivion because we're not all dying on account of your old power plants...."?

No, it's just kicking the US in the dick repeatedly despite the fact that our emissions levels are actually declining and that we've held largely steady for the last 30 years (a nominal increase despite increased population).

If the 'science was clear' you can put this in any other context and realize that nations wouldn't stand by and allow it. If Iran were openly building a nuclear device from a science fiction movie that was capable of splitting the world in half by exploding its core or some shit and had started a countdown clock on it, nobody would just say "Damn man, why won't Republicans give us more money?" The reaction would be...significantly more harsh.

The United States is doing a TON on its own end to reduce emissions. And by all accounts we could reduce our footprint to zero and it would mean precisely dick anyway unless significant measures were taken in the developing world to address their antiquated technologies.

So lets start there. Has anyone ever seen the silly trivia thing that says you can save more money by switching from a car that gets 12 MPG to one that gets 24 MPG than by switching from one that gets 24 MPG to one that gets 1,000 MPG? The math checks out over the 'average' 12,000 mile year (option A saves you 500 gallons; option B saves you 488). Switching from a gas guzzler to a reasonably efficient car saves more money than switching from the reasonably efficient car to a super hybrid.

Don't try to do scalpel work when there's still a lot of shovel work to be done. You can take the billions that people one to plow into reducing cow flatulance and instead address those developing nations where you'll get WAY larger marginal returns.

Nah - let's keep kicking sand at the United States. Because we're all clearly very serious so we'll pass more resolutions that don't bind anyone to anything and that the nations who are going the wrong way in emissions aren't even pretending to give a shit about. Clearly very serious business.
