-- Hey CP - Where exactly are you with regards to Justin Houston?

I know it's not popular, but; I'm SO cool w/ him not being here next season. Let me start w/ I LOVE Justin, but it's time for an entire agitation (as far as I'm concerned) -- You guys know how much I loved him, from UGA and what not. Fell to us in the draft after a Marijuana case, and he learned from it!

Don't get it twisted - my opinion is ALL BUSINESS. We will NEVER replace JH next year regarding talent - but if we can SORT of 'come close' w/ regards to a replacement, then I'll be cool. I think if those were the cases; we can add another stud w/ just a slight sub par replacement (at that position) and also: (the ability to add another quality positional starter)

I'd like to hear from my people, here.

If this were to happen - we all know JH will be just fine in finding work w/o reducing to sacking groceries at the Winn Dixie.

Thanks all!

I don't care too much either way. Id love to keep him. I was only pointing out that restructuring is absolutely an option for us, but it has to be at the right price.

The way I see it...KC led the NFL in sacks and still ranked 31st in defense.

They couldn't stop a nose bleed went it mattered...Houston still has trade value. He was going to have to restructure his contract anyways...

Trade him, get a mid round pick, and net $14 million...reinforce the back end. Chiefs literally needed one stop more a game...and legitimate officiating.

Berry's ridiculous $16 mil hit is keeping KC from capitalizing on Mahomes cheap contract...all for a player that will contribute almost nothing.

$37 million for Houston/Berry...if they stay put. Could rebuild the entire defense with that..

One of the two (Ford/Houston) has to go...just not to the Pats/Colts.

nobody's going to take on $21 million for Houston when they know they can just wait and negotiate a fresh deal. Nobody is going to pay him that.

We don't know what our options are with Berry. It's possible that we're just ****ed and have to eat it. Or it's possible that we could cut him June 1.

I don't know what happens exactly if he retires.

a team with a lot of cap room would probably rather have his current deal then a new one with more guaranteed money. Right not they could get away from him easy if his play dropped, if they sign him to a new deal they wont be able too.

no way. But I'd happily trade a middle of pack sack total along with a middle of the road run defense. That'd probably have us 15-1 and cruising to a Super Bowl win.

If you want to trade someone, it has to be Ford. Nobody is going to trade for Houston at his salary.

Houston doesn't want to take a pay cut so they're going to be forced to cut him.

Yep. They led the league in sacks and still had a historically bad pass defense.

This. Pressures don't mean shit if the defenders at the receiving end of the football can't capitalize on them.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but KC is only obligated to $8 million towards Houston if they outright cut him. It's the last bit owed to him... $21 million if he is on the 2019 team.

If a new team traded for him...they would rip up his old contract (which has no guaranteed money left) and he would renegotiate or they could pay him the remaining $14 million (not likely) then have him playing at a reduced rate that is more in tune with his age/production.

Houston wont see $21 million from anyone...including KC but still has trade value if he works out a new contract in advance.

except that he's made it clear he's not renegotiating. That stays the same regardless. If we trade him, the other team will be on the hook for $21 million dollars against their cap.

Everybody's all like-The Colts have SO MUCH CAP ROOM-and yeah, they do, but they also have so few players under contract that they're still going to have to be judicious about how much they spend on individuals.

but why would he do that?

He can force KC to cut him, paying him $8 million. Then he can go freely negotiate the best deal he can get abroad, already $8 ahead of the game.

AND everybody knows we can't pay him; they know we're going to have to cut him. We have no leverage. He has all the leverage.

I would MUCH rather keep him over Ford, that's for damn sure

We need complete, tough football players, not oft injured one trick ponies... Houston may be aging, but he is the more well rounded player by a country mile
