*.* NEW- 2014 General Fitness Thread *.*

I guess we filled up the old one... http://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/showthread.php?t=280149

Welcome to 2014! Now get your ass in top physical condition!

No one else started it so here it is!

**From the 2013 Thread**

If you want to get back into lifting, or need a new lifting routine, START HERE:

http://startingstrength.wikia.com/wi...inner_Programs

If you have questions about the SS programs, look here:

http://startingstrength.wikia.com/wiki/FAQ

Keep in mind that you're a novice lifter for a longer period of time than you think you are. Novice lifting can last anywhere from a few months to a year or two, depending on how hard you hit the weights and where you started.

Once you've reached the point where you don't make regular progress on the SS program, you are ready to move on to the intermediate stage, which can last you for a good number of years. Find it HERE:

http://madcow.hostzi.com/5x5_Program/Linear_5x5.htm

If you're a very advanced lifter (many, many years of CONSISTENT weight training), then there are lot of programs out there, and which one you pick is simply a matter of preference. If you're really that advanced, you should know what works for you and what doesn't by this point.

Should I add more carbs to my intake? I usually keep it around 50-75 a day. I added a bun to my dinner tonight (20g carbs). Which is really about all the carbs I've had today. I try to workout four days a week. Should I skip hardcore running and focus only on weights for muscle building? I run two of those days and do a lot of jump roping on another one of those days.

Edit: I wouldn't mind adding 5-10 lbs of muscle.
Now since you're at a place you want to be just eat Bacon, nothing else, just Bacon.

I lose weight more quickly when I'm lifting hard and heavy.

Don't be afraid to eat if you want to start bulking, however. I lift in the campus gym during the school year and I've been watching the same 4 dudes or so spin their wheels for the past 2 years wondering why they aren't gaining weight at 2k cals a day. If you're too afraid of putting on fat you won't gain any muscle.

Get on a real program and shoot to gain 2.5 lbs a month if you want to minimize fat gains. Find a macro calculator and hit them as consistently as you can.

Then, you would do the bulk of the hypertrophy with the next sets. 3 pairings, alternating muscle groups, 30 seconds of rest in between sets. (30-40 min)

Would end with some complexes to finish off the muscle exhaustion.

So, it would basically be:

Chest dominant - M
Hamstring dominant - T
Shoulder dominant - W
Quad dominant - Th
Back dominant - F
Total body - S
Off - Su (or, just go back to chest and do a 6-day cycle instead of 7)
sounds good man. let me know what you want me to do for set/rep scheme. Heading to disney for a week with the fam and will start this when I get back. Ill log and post in periodically

After basically starving myself so I can lose 50 lbs and not lifting any weights in several years, I finally benched 225. Baby steps, but I'm definitely proud of myself.

Not too shabby.

Could just be my perception or my choice of gyms but I'd say most men can't bench 225 so you're on the right track.

Trap bar or dumbbells. Trap bar is my preference.

I can't imagine they have kettlebells heavy enough for that?

Depends home far you want to carry them. My gym has up to 48kg kettle bells. One of those in each hand going up the alley behind the gym is pretty tough.

Oh well those ARE heavy! I've never been in a gym with kettlebells that heavy. Those definitely work.

And get some ****ing chalk if you can't grip them Billay. If you use gloves, you're the equivalent of a woman. Lifting with gloves is senseless for anything.

You just said 45 lb. kettle bells are heavy.

Just screwing with you, though. I'm weak as hell these days and haven't focused seriously on strength training in years. Hit goal of 405 deadlift and sort of lost interest in going really heavy (not that 405 is heavy for a lot of people).
