Tyler Scott, WR, Cincinnati

To help Direckshun's mental state and not feel like a "dumbass," I am creating the thread for Tyler Scott. This is my ultimate draft crush at WR this year in terms of guys that probably won't be a 1st rounder, but the Chiefs might have to move up in 2 if they want him. He's so very much Tyreek-ish.

He's reportedly 5'9-1/2" 185 lbs, runs a 4.29 40-yd dash, has a 41" vertical, and is likely to post an elite 3-cone as well.

Early knocks are that he needs to learn to play through contact. That's about it. I think he's the guy that could bring that feared speed element back to KC.

Dane Brugler is already all-in on him:

And he's just electric:

For sure.

I've seen more than a few outlets outside of Brugler putting him in the early 40's conversation.

He could end up a very real 1st round target because for as much as he did with the ball, he probably did as much without it and a lot of it was because his QB missed him badly.

So all those things you posted are absolutely true.

But look at how he brings in those challenged balls. Look how damn good he is at the catch point.

I mean, is this guy out of the conversation as a sleeper 1st round pick?

We know know know Reid knows how to use this guy. He is a Pro Bowler if he is a Chief.

I have a hard time taking small receivers in Round 1 but if there were ever one I'd say it might be a really good idea, this is the guy. He fits Andy Reid like a glove.

He is DeSean Jackson 2.0 and Reid took him at 49.

1. Would you take a guy in the 1st if you were pretty certain he was a Pro Bowl caliber player.

2. Would Andy Reid make this guy a Pro Bowl caliber player.

My answers to both of those are yessir. I think we should wait to see how the draft process works out, but I will tell you right now, he's a sleeper in my eyes.

I still think this team needs a tackle and passrusher more, but we'll see how free agency shakes out.

This guy absolutely plays like Tyreek Hill.

He was brought up on a pod I was listening to the other day.

Would be an ideal situation if some of the QB's fall and someone wanted to come up in the first to get the 5th year option and we could drop a few picks while picking up a 3rd or something.

He's small though. It didn't matter with Tyreek but he's an outlier.

Yeah, and that's why I don't think he's Tyreek.

Tyreek is small but he's also a durable tank. A rare athlete among the rare athletes. He's also an absolute shredder of a competitor; he just has no fear and runs angry. And despite the fact that he's an absolutely cancerous human being (I like to think I hated him before it was cool), he's also an absurdly smart WR. That doesn't show up on the stat sheet but it's true. He also just plays insanely hard. He and Mahomes/Kelce were completely unstoppable for three years in a league with the smartest defensive minds on the planet. They were also damn good that fourth year, but defenses started closing in on them.

I remember rookie Mecole Hardman, a guy who runs a 4.3 flat, comes in and challenges, I think, 5-year vet Tyreek to a footrace and he just blazes a 21 year old rookie. It wasn't even close. The workout videos he's posted, including that insane one where he's on his stomach with someone on his calves, and he's pulling himself up just by his hamstrings... I'm not sure I've ever seen that. He ran the 200 yard dash at Olympic speeds.

Tyreek, probably even now, is one of the fastest 500 humans on the planet.

When I say Tyler Scott plays like Tyreek, I mean only style-wise. He does possess elite, elite speed. And right now he doesn't seem to have Tyreek's unstoppability in short-area routes, but he looks fantastic in deep routes, really good in intermediate routes, and the way he goes up and wins the ball is absolutely rare for someone his size. But Tyreek has advantages over him that are physical (by a bit) and, ostensibly, psychological (by a good margin).

But hey, with some coaching, he could become that guy. Remember, Tyreek was drafted in 2015 and didn't explode until 2017.

Kansas City would be the perfect place for him, too. We've talked in DraftPlanet all season about how this team needs to get faster at the skill positions, and our starting Z receiver right now is MVS, who is cuttable starting next offseason. Giving Scott the Skyy Moore treatment would work for everyone.

And I have absolutely zero doubt when I say this, zero doubt: Andy Reid knows how to use this guy more than anybody else in the NFL, and so long as he stays healthy he will be a Pro Bowl player. So he may not be worth a 1st to a lot of teams, but he's worth a 1st here.

The biggest barrier to that right now is the team's situation at tackle -- we don't know what's up with OBJ and we may have to draft a left tackle of the future. We also know the way to win Super Bowls is to pair an elite QB with a great passrush, and the Chiefs are one DE away from having great bookends for the next 10 years, and Andre Carter is probably lasting until a trade-uppable range.

So what do the Chiefs need more than a Tyreek type at WR? A left tackle of the future? A bookend DE to pair with Karlaftis for a decade? They need both of those things a lot more. We just got to the Super Bowl with a rag tag team of B- and B+ weapons at receiver, paired with a GOAT tight end.

It'll be interesting to see what Veach does in the offseason with Brown, and in free agency at tackle and defensive end and/or defensive tackle.

Got on a big rant this morning but I've been watching me some Tyler Scott tape and I am jacked, brother. Jacked.

Yeah, he'd be an ideal 2nd rounder.

I think you have to attack the DE spot in FA. Go overpay for the guy from NO and put him across from Karlaftis for 4 years.

The tackle spot is the tough one. THe end of the first is a great spot to take a RT iMO>

I want a WR as much as anyone in the 1st but the Eagles are a good case study in constantly
investing in your OL and how much value it provides.

Tackle is probably the smart move in rd 1

I think there's a strong case to be made to constantly take a WR in the first three rounds. If you're not having to pay WR 20 million/year it opens up your cap space to bring in more experienced guys along the trenches.

We also have the luxury of a GOAT QB. I mean, we cannot overstate how lucky we are.

A guy that good with a GOAT TE, you can surround with a cadre of B-grade weapons and he'll make it all happen. We don't need Scott. He's a luxury pick.

But the key to the draft is to add talent, that's the biggest thing. And if your choice is between a "solid" tackle and a Pro Bowl WR, you probably go with the WR.

It'll just depend on how the board falls.
