gun question

Ok, I'm in the market for an AK. Don't bother with the AR vs AK thing, cuz I'm eventually going to have both. I don't want to break the bank, and I'm confused by all the different designations such as SKS, SRA, PAP, O-PAP, etc. all for guns that are all 7.62/39mm guns. Any help would be great for a gun that fits in a budget under $700.

Let er rip

He's getting that from "Bowling for Columbine", that Moore fake-umentary about the "gun culture" in Murica.

Quote:
Bowling For Columbine opens with a sequence where Moore goes to bank to take advantage of one of their offers: open an account, receive a gun. Various sources including the bank itself have stated that this sequence is a wholly inaccurate depiction of what a customer would go through if they actually took the bank up on their offer. As the above copy of the advertisement shows, the gun is not free (to receive it, you have to deposit a certain amount of money into the account for a certain period of time and by receiving it, you agree to surrender all of the interest from your account until the gun is paid off), and is only one of various “Instant Interest” items available to customers. The bank itself has stated that the customer would have to fill in two sets of paperwork, one of which is the information required for a background check. The gun is then shipped to either the bank or a gun shop from a different location.
The lion’s share of the sequence is fake since acquiring a rifle from a bank is nowhere near as quick and easy as Bowling For Columbine depicts it to be. And because it’s a fake, it immediately breaches both the spirit and definition of what a documentary is. The puzzling thing about this sequence is that it doesn’t help Moore’s overall point that poverty, fear, and the US’s social climate is the reason for a high rate of gun murders, not the presence of guns. So what was the point of going through the hassle and expense of staging it?

Yeah, not to head off into a political direction, but I saw my first Moore some twenty? Years ago. Walked out after 10 minutes. Propaganda and nothing more.

On a lighter note....my Wife and I are both in our 60s. She told me a couple of weeks ago that she wanted to get her CCW so I'm getting her a class along with a Bersa .380 for Christmas.

Anyone out there have any experience with the Bersa? Frankly, I had considered a small 9mm, but she is a petite woman and not too "comfortable" with guns - especially my Sigs (P220, P226 and SP2022). Seems like the PPK clone would fit her better.

Thoughts?

I had a Bersa .380, but the ex-wife demanded one of my pistols on her way out the door. The Bersa was 'her size', the .380 is a pretty easy to shoot round. For my money, the Czech made Makarov pistols ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CZ_82 ) was a better pistol for less money - when I bought mine. The CZ/VZ shoot the 9x18 round, the .380 is a 9x17 round. Your 9mm pistols shoot a 9x19 round. The 9x18 is loaded quite a bit hotter than the .380 and doesn't give up much to 'mild' 9mm ammo - tho' the 9mm stuff is a lot easier to find these days. The Russians used to market 9x18 stuff, cheap, but that's all being shot at Ukrainians these days. Likewise, all that surplus CZ and Russian ammo and guns are now being used by backline troops guarding captured Ukrainian territory. One more quick opinion - CZ surplus is hard to find these days because guys like me - who bought 'em for $200 when they first came out - we won't sell 'em for $400 now. They're good little Czech pistols if you can find one.

IIRC Bersa is Brazilian, but do your own homework before you spend $$$, don't just trust some old guy on the internet with a bad memory.

I have a zastava zpap m70. It has a chrome lined barrel and is my favorite gun to shoot. I prefer it over my sig sauer ar15. It was around $900. Some ppl are able to get them for more or a little less than that.
