Andy Reid

So I'm curious as to what the general consensus is here at CP when it comes to Andy Reid's coaching ability. So I'm putting up a big long thick pole. On a scale of 1-10 with 1 being the worst and 10 being the best where do you put Coach Reid?

I went 9, in spite of his well discussed idiosyncrasies all he has done here is win

He took over after 2-14 and a murder suicide, and instantly changed the culture

That kind of turnaround is rare

Winning a super bowl or six will vault him into a 10

QB whisperer, has drafted us some fantastic offensive players. Clock management bad, seems like a good leader. Took the worst team in the NFL into a playoff team. Has been to a Superbowl. Struggles with playing with a lead it seems.

He's been a good coach but there are flaws, I rated him a 7.

I rated him at 8. But I'm thinking that may be a bit low. It's looking like the biggest thing holding him back was a quarterback that wouldn't take advantage of his play calling. But now that I see Mahomes doing what he's doing, I think that Reid is damn good. He flat out schooled a very good Jags defense last week.

I see that Black Helicopters gave him a 1, but didn't bother coming in to defend that rating. I guess that he knew that his rating was indefensible, so why bother.

Thank God we no longer have to endure a pedestrian POS attempting to run about 25% of this total offense, and doing a shitty job of even THAT.

He's been a good coach but there are flaws, I rated him a 7.

I went with 7 based on the above combined with the need to be more aggressive( which I believe will come with more time and trust between Reid and Mahomes ), and a tendency to settle with fielding a less than balanced defense.
Remember, he's the head coach of a team, not just an offense.

That has to be a joke, but who I don't think is joking is that reerun Randallflagg. He gave him a 5, which is saying he's an average coach. Andy is no where close to average. Any coach that can do what Andy did with Alex Smith is at the very least a 7 and that seems too low. Hell if I could change my vote I'd give him a 10.

I also gave him a 9 because to me the only thing he hasn't done is won a Super Bowl. His regular season record is great, and his history as an offensive innovator and game planner is unimpeachable. He's consistently 5 years ahead of the rest of the NFL; he used to get criticized for passing too much with the Eagles, but now the entire league is passing at that rate. He's made countless mediocre QB's look very good and the one great QB he's had (Mahomes) now looks like a future hall of famer. His assistants get poached every year and it never effects the offense, yet his assistants generally go on to have success which means to me that he has a great eye for coaching talent as well. He's always been an offensive innovator and never rested on his laurels, even as a guy who's been in the NFL for decades he's still one of the most innovative coaches in terms of bringing in concepts from college offenses.

He's probably as good of an offensive tactician as the league has had in the last 25+ years, especially in his ability to use the width of the field. His Achilles has always been game/clock management. He's obviously hands off on defense. Give him a group of skill position players like this and it's almost unfair.

I gave him a 9.

He makes players better.

I mean, he took Alex ****ing Smith and turned him into the highest-rated passer in football.

He's the best coach this franchise will ever have. Yes, better than Stram.

Not yet, homeslice.

You're talking about a coach that coached the first Super Bowl, won the 4th Super Bowl, and wrote the mother****ing book on NFL defense for the next decade to come and beyond.
Not to mention his offensive schemes were groundbreaking for the time.

Reid is a great coach but he's chosen his side of the ball and will never be the complete coach that Stram was.

But it looks like Mahomes was the missing ingredient so here’s hoping he’s the guy to take us to the promised land.

and please, don't say McNabb was an elite QB. Very good, but not elite.
