Texans are going to have to battle to dig themselves out of the pit they are in.

They don't have a 2021 draft pick until the 3rd Round and they are near the bottom of the league for Cap Space for 2021.

A story with some more information below.

Second, Easterby really wins. As reported by Mike Garafolo of NFL Media, the Korn Ferry search firm identified five candidates for the job: Texans director of player personnel Matt Bazirgan, Seahawks V.P. of player personnel Trent Kirchner, Steelers V.P. of football and business administration Omar Khan, Louis Riddick, and Ravens director of football research Scott Cohen. Korn Ferry did not include Caserio on its list of finalists.

But Caserio got the job, because that’s who Easterby wanted — and Easterby won the power struggle with Korn Ferry. (Korn Ferry presumably still gets paid its six-figure fee for creating a menu from which the Texans ultimately didn’t select.)

“Easterby is a wizard,” Garafolo declares.

Others in league circles would use other terms to describe Easterby. In the hiring of a G.M., however, Easterby got the guy he tried to get in 2019. Which, as one league source observed, allows Easterby to continue to pull the strings without the accountability that goes with being the G.M.

Next, the question becomes whether Easterby will get his preferred coach. Some wonder whether it will be Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, who spurned the Colts three years ago and who has gotten less interest in recent hiring cycles.

The first question is whether McDaniels on Korn Ferry’s list. If not, McDaniels could be the man for the job.

It was one year on a sinking ship with Matt Cassel and Romeo Crennel. Whatever he was then, he’s proven to be a pretty good offensive coordinator lately. Maybe he’ll fail as a head coach but if his one year as Chiefs o-coordinator 8 years ago is the entire case for that it’s pretty weak.

He was part of a much larger culture problem.

Charles did have a great season that one year he was here.

Daboll had Cassell and Brady Quinn as his QBs. Enough said there.

He’s sucked everywhere he’s been pre-2020.

Someone posted his history in one of these threads, SNR I think. It’s cringeworthy.

His entire body of work is not impressive at all.

He's done well with Allen but he's also working for a HC that has a very strong idea of how to run a team and his HC is not a E/P or Patriots guy.

He's been a position coach on some awful offenses (and one good one which featured Brett Favre at QB) but here's his scoring offenses as an offensive coordinator.

Where you have to give credit Daboll is being humble. He has failed at pretty much every stop as an OC prior to Buffalo. He only got another shot in the NFL after going to college and working under Saban.

There it looks like he soaked up the college game and his ideas now include all sorts of modern college concepts that were lacking before.

In Buffalo he was handed a QB with a rocket arm, size, and mobility. But Allen was not going to work in a Tom Brady Patriot offense where it is about fast processing and finding the open guy.

So Daboll created an entirely new offense designed to max out Allen and hide his weaknesses (processing the field, throwing with anticipation, knowing what to do post snap).

That's really what teams should look for now. Not someone that preaches a system and tries to jam the QB into it. Someone that will build around their QB and make them successful.

He started his career under Saban at Michigan State. He's part of the Belichik good old boy network. He's a Patriot Way jag off.

And as far as tailoring his offense, it's far more about Allen maturing than it is about Daboll doing anything right. Their offense was horrible last year.
