The problem isn't the NFL players or the Team Reps, it's DeMaurice Smith.

The players were locked out in 2011 and what did the players really get? Well, a decrease in the overall share of revenues (47%) in exchange for less practice time in pads during the week and substantially less offseason participation, which has led to far more injuries, less parity and more tanking.

Eric Winston, the current NFLPA President is now retired, so as of March, he's no longer eligible to represent the players. It's probably a wise move on their part to elect a new NFLPA President, then elect a new head of the Player's Union, with the ultimate goal of getting a higher percentage of revenues, better post-NFL heathcare, a 16 game season and no THC testing.

Otherwise, they're screwing themselves.

If Okung tries to hardball owners with his extreme stances, he will get blackballed like Winston/Kap did. They need to proactively counter instead of shout on social media. Don’t embarrass the owners - they will get cutthroat if need be.

And Okung needs to realize China does not own the NFL.

The NFLPA executive committee voted 6-5 NOT to recommend the current CBA proposal, source said. That is simply a recommendation, though. It now goes to the 32-man board of representatives.

The executive committee is the group that is responsible for negotiating the deal. It is led by NFLPA president Eric Winston. Some members, including VPs Russell Okung and Richard Sherman, have voiced opposition to the deal. But the 32 player reps carry the hammer. Talks ongoing.

Nothing in life is free. Everything has a cost. Negotiations are not about fancy rhetorical tricks they are paying a price for what you want. In a climate where all unions in major American sports have taken steps back financially the NFLPA will be taking a step forward (cont.)

The price is high, exposure to another week of collisions. To get that without another game the cost would likely be a strike that will cost at least an entire season of games. Which for most players would mean ending missing out on a huge chunk of their lifetime earnings (cont,)
