When is Morel Season?

I'll be back in Missouri during the first week in May. When do the morels pop up? It's been years since I've had some delicious fried mushrooms. It would just be awesome if we could have some.

We would ship them to my Dad in Arizona. My wife would dehydrate them to send and then he would rehydrate them in heavy cream and fry them. They aren't as good as fresh, but not too bad.

Food dehydrator works best. You can also dry them in a brown paper bag in the fridge. Takes longer but still works.

My mom hooked me up with a nice mess. They found a whole shitload on their land up by Rochester Falls.

We were in the Ozarks last week. We didn't get any morels. None of my relatives had found any. I half assedly looked for some as I hiked along the river while fishing, but I didn't see anything either.

This last week and weekend was killer up north of KC. I was out at my FIL's house in Cameron on Sunday. Was out playing with my son in the yard and stepped out about 10 feet into the woods to take a piss and found four big yellows as I was getting ready to unload.

I like them fried in butter, lightly dusted with flour.

But my favorite way is to cook them in foil on the grill in butter and some onion and garlic powder.

That's the only way I've ever cooked them, the first way. Use a combo of veggie oil and butter.

What do you do on the grill? Just wrap them up and make a foil packet or what? I've got enough that I'm willing to try a different method this time around with some.
