Chiefs trying to trade Justin Houston

CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reports the Chiefs talking to teams about trading OLB Justin Houston.

We doubt they're successful. Houston turned 30 last month and carries an exorbitant $21.1 million cap hit. If the Chiefs don't find a trade partner, they're fully expected to release Houston, especially with Dee Ford likely coming back on either a big-money deal or the franchise tag. Houston's play has slipped in recent years, but he can be an effective sub-package rusher off the edge

I hope Dee ford is taking it HARD knowing he blew our whole ****ing season!
I just wish Mahomes had ignored Reid's warning and thrown it to Williams in the flat on the play that started at :16. He was wide wide open and close to the sidelines at the 10. Who knows what could have happened. At least it could buy us one legit shot at the EZ. Or maybe Williams gets a block and dives to the pylon.

Either that or maybe on the free play a down before, maybe Mahomes doesn't see Robinson and decides to throw it to the far right corner and let Hill run under it. With that ending - people would be calling that the greatest game of all time.

Or we get some kind of miracle stop in OT. If only BOB had a blitz that wasn't painfully obvious before the play. Hell just tell the players to line up normal but then two of them rush - show them something they haven't seen. Take a ****ing chance BOB YOU OLD WORTHLESS ****.

These things and other slight variations are still playing on a loop in my brain.

Good point. I can not argue this.

Yeah - exactly why I think letting it get out that we're shopping Houston is more about sending a message.

As much as we need the cap space, I'll be sad to see him go. Dude came in as a third round pick and started right away and played his ass off for us. He had a couple of injuries, but he gave us a lot of good snaps. Too bad they gave him a stupid contract, because he still has some left in the tank and I hate to see him go.

Fans just want players to be affordable so we can build the best roster at a price that fits under the cap so we can win Superbowls
Pretty much this.

And correct me if I'm wrong but at the end of the day, the fans are the ones paying the player's salaries. Sure the league is always trying to get more fans but the prices are also raising for existing fans. I know what's inflation BTW.

So when I see players being so greedy, holding out to get more money and the likes, I'm not a fan of all that.

TV contracts pay salaries so yeah, technically, fans pay them.

I can't see how people get upset at players wanting more money or holding out. It's a short lived career model where you can get injured and not have a chance to play and make money for very long.

Say what you want about Ford but the guy hasn’t even had a mega contract yet and here he is saying he’s ready to come back and finish their goal. For the tag or a long term deal, he’s doesn’t care. Houston wanted to be traded when he was threatened with the tag in 2014.

Houston already got paid and still won’t talk about a restructure to keep himself in KC with a good chance to finally win. I mean, WTF?

And I was one of Houston’s biggest fans all the way through. I supported that guy when shit got really ugly in 2015/2016.

Thanks for the contributions, but I’ve got zero problem with sending his ass somewhere else.

If anything announcing you're willing to trade a player weakens your trade position. But in the case of Houston obviously his contract is an albatross and every other team (well maybe except the Raiders) knows this.

So to me the real story is why would the Chiefs leak this? Obviously they're trying to send some kind of message to Houston. Maybe the same with talking about Berry not having surgery. So let Houston know that Berry might be cut post June 1. Also let him know that the next step is to cut him outright. Basically giving him a last chance warning to see if he'll restructure.

Or something - who knows. But I'm almost sure this isn't: "Hey you know what, maybe we should trade Houston. Let's put the word out there he's available." This has to be about sending a message to Houston and possibly also Berry.
Dead right.

Nobody is going to start a "Ready to Trade Justin Houston" rumor at the combine for no reason. Of course, there's a reason.

If Fiddy said he's unwilling to renegotiate, so be it. Put a shot across his bow and splash some water on Berry at the same time.

Why should a player take less money than their contract says they should get paid?

They should be looking for someone to take Berry off their hands as well.

Why the **** should the Chiefs have to take massive cap charges for guys who don’t play with crazy knee injuries, a heel deformity, cancer, etc.?

The players aren’t the only ones who get ****ed sometimes with this stuff. This is the CBA they all agreed on.

If Houston wants to go play for a loser to make a little more money, more power to him. That’s if he even gets more money than a restructured deal would have supplied.

Some players do it in order to relieve cap dollars and improve the team's chances to win the Super Bowl.

I know it sounds crazy, but they really do.

Apparently, NFL players come in two flavors; ones who prioritize the bag and ones that prioritize the ring.
