Had to put my friend down yesterday
She’d steadily been losing weight for months and took a bad turn. She wasn’t holding down fluids for 3 days even intravenously. I petted her neck while momma rubbed her ears as she left this world

She had my back and was always there for a kiss during the dark days of chemo. I’ll miss my Po dog.


I’m heartbroken.

sorry to hear bud. We had to put down each of our 14 year old dogs within 6 months of each other. Once the first one went, I think the 2nd one was dying of a broken heart. on the way to the vet to put down our Lab, she was standing up in the back seat and had her head completely out of the window the entire time on the drive there. In 14 years, she never did that; she would just lay in the back seat. The morning of going to the vet it was also weird; as my wife and I were getting ready and then ended sitting next to each other drinking coffee and wondering if we were doing the right thing by putting her down..... our lab came out from the bedroom, and sat in between us and alternated between us nudging us with her snout and wanting us to pet her.


Dogs rule; and I truly believe they're grateful. I know none of this helps now, at this time, but just remember shes grateful and waiting to see you on the other side.

You just looked up to me as if to say that you were old and tired and that after all of these years of not asking for anything, you had to ask me for one favor.

With tears in my eyes, I dorve you one last time to the vet. One last time, you were lying next to me. For some strange reason, you were able to stand up in the animal hospital; perhaps it was your sense of pride.

As the vet led you away, you stopped for an instant, turned your head and looked at me as if to say, "Thank you for taking care of me."

I thought, "No, thank you for taking care of me."

My wife and I insisted on being 'back there' at the Vet both times we had to put ours down. My wife didn't want to , but I said 'we owe it to them'. It was hard but I was glad we did it so they weren't alone as they passed.


I think I would've regretted it if I didn't.

That's how I feel about it too. I've never let one of my furry family members pass on by themself. There's been a couple times I've had to do it myself, hardest damn thing in the world for me to do but I felt I owed them that, and so much more.

I go back every time. There is no way I wouldn't be there. They want to be with you. I hate putting dogs down. Sorry for your loss.

That's tough. I've had to put a couple of dogs down. Last one was a great dog. Mastiff. We got him from the pound. He got cancer and he'd started losing weight. I think he was also in some discomfort. I took him into the woods and had him lie down. I don't know how but I think he knew what was coming and I think he trusted me.

There's no pain like having to put down a dog. Hang in there.
