Maui is burning...

There's housing all up and down that side of the mountain and it's immensely sketchy right now. Even Kihei is in danger (south central). Prayers to the locals and anyone who's trapped in this hellscape. Seemed as if the high winds caught them off guard. But beyond the loss of life of the worlds coolest tree (Banyan tree the size of a city block) is probably gone now (https://lahainarestoration.org/lahaina-banyan-tree/).

Yeah, it's real bad. Hurricane Dora has affected the wind, very windy throughout the islands. All Maui schools, but Hana, are closed. I think Lahaina is being evacuated.

Yeah, this sucks. I’ve spent a lot of time in that area. Sounds like most of the main business district has been wiped out.

Lahaina, where that tree is at is pretty far from Kihei (stayed there last year) or the start to the road of hana, from what I remember. Still looks like it sucks, a lot.

It’s a bad deal. I’ve been an Oahu resident for more than 30 years so I’ve been to Maui many times. Sad to see.

We were just in Lahaina 30 days ago. We loved it there and can't imagine that it's mostly all gone at this point. Just wow.
