Solo: A Star Wars Story 2018 Spoiler Thread

http://www.starwars.com/news/donald-...and-alone-film

Donald Glover is officially a young Lando Calrissian!

Lucasfilm announced today that Donald Glover, an acclaimed actor, award-winning writer, and Grammy-nominated artist, will be playing the part of Lando Calrissian in the still-untitled Han Solo Star Wars film, helmed by directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. Glover will join Alden Ehrenreich — previously cast as Han Solo — in bringing two iconic Star Wars characters back to the big screen, but at a time in their lives previously unexplored. This new film depicts Lando in his formative years as a scoundrel on the rise in the galaxy’s underworld — years before the events involving Han, Leia, and Darth Vader in The Empire Strikes Back and his rise to Rebel hero in Return of the Jedi.

“We’re so lucky to have an artist as talented as Donald join us,” said Lord and Miller. “These are big shoes to fill, and an even bigger cape, and this one fits him perfectly, which will save us money on alterations. Also, we’d like to publicly apologize to Donald for ruining Comic-Con for him forever.”

Glover is best known for creating and starring in the critically acclaimed FX series Atlanta (which had the highest premiere numbers for any basic cable comedy show since 2013), as well as for starring in four seasons of the show Community, and for his Grammy-nominated album Because the Internet, performed under the name Childish Gambino. In addition, Glover appeared in the Academy Award-nominated The Martian, and will be seen in the upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming.

The untitled Han Solo movie is set for release in 2018.

Yeah, you can really tell when a good screenwriter gets behind one of these things.

It's hard to write good dialogue for goofy science fiction films. Kasdan might be the best at it.

The interactions between Han and Kira were spot on. All the characters just felt very believable.

Agreed what someone said about the film being a little dark, visually, though.

Also, have to say, the spice mines of kessel, the maw cluster and everything to do with the run were just great looking. That's about how I imagined it.

Also...loved, loved, loved Lando's outfits.

Spoiler!

The first important timepiece we have from Solo's trailer is that Chewbacca is 190 years old and, according to Wookiepedia, was born in Kashyyyk during the year 200 BBY (before the Battle of Yavin that takes place at the end of A New Hope). Han Solo was born approximately in 29 BBY on the planet Corelia, during the beginning of the fall of the Galactic Republic.

If we do a little math, we can determine that Han is 19 years old when he meets Chewbacca. It was the year 10 BBY, which is nine years after the Empire has taken over the galaxy following the events of The Revenge of the Sith.

What else is going on in 10 BBY? The construction of the Death Star moves to Scarif, the planet where Jyn Erso and Captain Cassian travel to steal the Death Star plans 10 years later in Rogue One, during the year 0 BBY. Also, Jabba the Hutt sends Black Krrsantan to hunt down Obi-Wan Kenobi.

The Solo film begins three years earlier than Han and Chewbacca's first encounter, so we start around year 13 BBY. By end of the movie we should be at around 7 BBY, when Rogue One's Bodhi Rook signs onto the Terrabe Sector Service Academy to become an Imperial pilot before eventually joining the Rebel Alliance.

We haven’t even talked much about L3-37. She was awesome. One of the best Droid characters I’ve seen in any Star Wars movie.

Sounds like it is a good movie to. Johnson may have a dealt a hell of a long term blow to the franchise.

Nope, but it looks like he did a number on it. The brass can't be too happy with the box office numbers.

Also, Ron Howard got his ugly brother into the movie in a way that actually fit. I laughed when he showed up.

My only criticism is that they pulled their punches with the spaghetti western stuff at the end of the movie. They could have really leaned into it and done something cool. Alas.

He even worked Warwick Davis into a role!

It looks like killing Luke killed the franchise. I can't imagine at this point any standalone doing better than Solo. No place to go but down from here.

Killing Luke was one thing (and maybe bound to happen at some point), but killing a grumpy coward shell of Luke that walked away from his sister, his family, his New Republic, the galaxy in general and the Force specifically, alone on some nowhere planet with regret filling his face in his last minute - yeah, maybe not the best gift to give lifelong fans that grew up remembering how they wanted to be Luke Skywalker nor the direction to take the new trilogy.

But don't worry, we have force prodigy Rey and Kathleen Kennedy to save us all!
