Chiefs spending more than $10 million in updates to Arrowhead Stadium this offseason

Chiefs spending more than $10 million in updates to Arrowhead Stadium this offseason

BY PETE GRATHOFF

JANUARY 29, 2019 10:14 AM,

When the Chiefs next play at Arrowhead Stadium, things will look a little different at the building.

The Chiefs announced Monday the team is making updates to Arrowhead that include a “modernization” of the Arrowvision scoreboard, a re-application of waterproofing measures to the entire upper deck and new seats in the upper deck.

“It has been a decade since our last major renovation to Arrowhead Stadium was completed and we’ve been taking an extensive look at areas we can address as we move towards future seasons,” Chiefs president Mark Donovan said in a release on the team’s website. “We are excited about these projects and look forward to the work beginning in the coming days and weeks.”

Jim Rowland, the executive director of the Jackson County Sports Complex Authority, said the cost of the updates will be more than $10 million. The Chiefs are paying for the work, Rowland said, but in the future can request to be reimbursed by the sports authority.

The scoreboard on the west end zone will remain the same size and shape, the Chiefs said, but will have new LED panels that are expected to enhance the clarity.

In the upper deck, the new seats also will have cup holders for the first time.

Work on the stadium could begin next week, according to the Chiefs.

There's over 20,000 vehicles in that lot. What do you feel would be a reasonable amount of time to get every one of them out?

they are sending the bill to the Jackson county authority. So it will be all the taxpayers, not just Chief fans.

I stand corrected. You are right, it appears in the lease that that the County only gets $1 per car park with the rest in the Chiefs pocket.

same with every team. Why do you think parking is $60-$90 in some NFL venues?

I have been thinking the video board is outdated. I don't necessarily care about the shape, but feel like they could have made it bigger. Also agree with the entrance to game issues.

Do they think the cupholder issue with increase or decrease beverage sales? On one hand you have people spilling drinks as they pass through rows, On the other hand your drink is closer to your hand so it shouldn't take as much time to finish your drink.

Trust me, the existing video board has more than enough resolution to see it.

Those are awesome. Beats the hell out of the stand alone urinals. That setup has to be 2 to 3 times faster than stand alone urinals. All I care is getting in and out. Who wants to go to game and wait in long lines to do your business. No thanks.

The AFCCG was my first post-trough trip. The bathrooms were an absolutely jammed up mess. Whoever thought urinals was a good idea didn't think it through.

I really, really, really hope that Pat Mahomes Sr. forms some kind of 'design firm' and the Chiefs can funnel millions of dollars a year to it, as a way of bypassing the salary cap. Keep PMII salary around 15M a year and make up the rest with shady business deals.

It's the only way.

you don’t think almost every agent and team hasn’t considered that scam? I bet there is a serious penalty. Not just lost draft picks but suspension of the player.

Plus, what do you think the outcry would have been if the Pats did that for Brady? I don’t want to be the scumbag team.
