Del Rio: I don't see why the Raiders won't win the AFC West

he last time the Raiders won the AFC West, it was at the end of the 2002 season, when Eminem’s “Lose Yourself” was the No. 1 song and The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers was the top movie at the box office. It’s been a long time.

But new Raiders coach Jack Del Rio doesn’t see why the Raiders can’t win the AFC West this year.

“Goal No. 1 is to win our division, and I don’t see why not,” Del Rio said in a video on the team’s website.

Raiders offensive line coach Mike Tice added, “We’re going to be a championship football team.”

In the time since their last playoff appearance, the Raiders have gone from Bill Callahan to Norv Turner to Art Shell to Lane Kiffin to Tom Cable to Hue Jackson to Dennis Allen to Tony Sparano as head coach. All those coaches arrived with optimism that they’d be the ones to win in Oakland. Maybe Del Rio will finally be the coach who can actually turn things around.

I count 3-2 as Del Rio's record against the Chiefs. This doesn't include his time as interim HC of the Broncos. Of course, he got 2 of those wins against Herm so that's not saying much.

welp, that's JDR for you... just chopping wood. This is going to be a real fun season to watch--is Carr really good? Is KC the best team in the AFCW? Is Kubiak's system gonna work with Manning? Are the Chargers the dark horse to come out on top?

I know you're just joking, but just in case anybody was curious...

Since 2000, when playing in the state of Florida, the Chiefs are

2-2 against Jacksonville
0-2 against Tampa
2-1 against Miami

4-5 isn't good, but considering the shitty Chiefs teams in that span and the fact that those are all road games, I don't think the Chiefs are at all "cursed" in the state of Florida any more than they're "cursed" in other states.

The Florida curse is a huge gaping myth perpetuated by sandy vagina'd fans.
