Wtf is wrong with special teams

What is going on here? Pats not only blocked a punt, they nearly blocked a second one. No idea how Dustin managed to get that second dribbler off.

I know a few weeks ago there was talk of an extremely predictable snap count. Anyone see what happened on those 2 punts?

I have a sinking feeling we have a major flaw that teams are waiting til the last minute to exploit.

I can't figure out the short kick-offs. Kick the ball through the back of the end zone every single time and be done with it. (Wind permitting of course) I just don't see the benefit of kicking short and hoping to get a tackle before the 25. The risk/reward just isn't there.

Now... Andy going for it on 4th down and fake punts... I'm ecstatic about that even if they don't work. Because that's a tendency breaker. A bad tendency that seems to haunt us more than it helps us.
I'm curious about the actual data that leads people to think Andy "turtled up" in the Pats game. Is the fact that we had wide open guys running deep routes a result of Andy going conservative?

So, Andy directed Kelce to fumble? I'm not sure how you can watch the actual game and the plays being called and suggest Andy, somehow, "turtled" up.

Did BB "turtle up" in the first half? It appears he did, given your definition.

You turtle up when in the lead not down 20 to 7 at half. Maybe Reid thought he didnt want to give Bill any more to work on if we faced again or Pats hand made him unable to throw downfield. Andy has a telephone book for a playbook so I dont think that was it. If Pat was to hurt to throw downfield as it looked as Bill sold out against short pases and runs then pull Pat and bring in Matt.

Belichick got back into that game like he always does. He trusts his guys are smarter and play sound waiting for you to make mistakes trying to coast in. His guys go for strips and picks they also play solid special teams.

It seems like all teams are doing that a lot this year. So much for moving the kickoff location to reduce the number of returns to better protect the players.

He could be right, if you watch the replay, looks like Sherman is standing right across line of scrimmage looking back towards colquit, maybe he just forgot to pass it? From views Ive seen, he had plenty of running room.

I've noticed this too and it's actually having the opposite effect. Kicks are shorter but more hang time allowing defenders to get to the returner. Stop screwing with the rules

Yeah if Colquit could dump it over the line sausage might still be running.

If you kick off short you have the chance of creating and recovering a fumble. Even if they return it past the 25 there will be a flag and 10 yard penalty anyway. Why not?

Few weeks ago Colquitt threw a terrible pass on a panic from a duffed punt. I imagine it's incredibly difficult for punters to make very quick decisions on things like that.

I'd kick short every single time.

Wedge blocking is illegal now so you end up seeing a flag thrown every time someone tries to run laterally. Additionally, because you're up a little closer, you can hang that ball way up there and give your return team time to get down to cover.

With the rash of penalties that comes on returns, you have a 50/50 shot of getting one thrown and the opponent starting their drive at the 15/16 yard line vs. the 25. I think that's absolutely worth the nominal risk of letting them take one out given the fact that the lack of a wedge makes a KO return for a touchdown less likely than ever.
