Herbert reeks of Gabbert, but he has time to mature that Gabbert never had.

My thought is the Chargers will have an elite defense and when Herbert is called upon, (which may be soon if they don't get a proven LT), he'll be fine.

When the Chiefs traded up to pick Mahomes, Chiefs fans rejoiced. They finally picked their own QB in the first round.

For the Chargers, we've had Rivers for years, his time was over and we had a pick in the top of the 1st.
Most franchises w/o a franchise QB would tend to try to get one under these circumstances.

Instead of Glenn Dorsey or Branden Albert, the Chiefs could have had Joe Flacco in the 2008 Draft. Would that have made a difference?

The fact the Chargers drafted any QB makes me happy. It's not like for every Pat White there's a Pat Mahomes. You get a good one or, most likely, you don't but at least they're trying.

I was exactly the same way for years. I'd still not be sold on Herbert - but would prefer him to nobody. He's just the type of qb I'd avoid at all costs - I'd be so torn.
