Gunther had several top 3 defenses and I believe 2 #1 defenses. You are out of your mind.

And even then, he couldn't be consistently good. He also limited DT like no one else (the Falcon). Goonther sucked.

Gunther was only good when he had DT, Neil Smith, Hasty, Carter, Woods, Wesley, Dan Williams, Joe Phillips, Dan Saleamua, Wayne Simmons (RIP), Donnie Edwards, et al

Those defenses were STACKED, yo.

Remember 2003, when we went 13-3 and the defense was terrible?

Vermeil fired GRob and brought Gunther back, everyone was all "SOOOPER BOWL", but the defense actually got WORSE, and we went 7-9 with a better, totally record setting offense in 2004?

I remember.

Gunther made the defense worse. And all through the Herm years...Gunther coordinated a defense that got like 9 total sacks in 2008.

We've had 3 PLAYERS get that or more this year.

Let that all sink in, and then try and tell me about how good Goonther ****ingham really is...

I'm certainly not defending Gunther Cunningham as head coach. That was a disaster and all. BUT...those teams in 99 and 2000 were ball soup. The death throes of the Marty era and the pre-Vermeil era combined into one team. And Grbac.

He had two defenses that ranked #1 in points allowed. These came in his 3rd (1995) and 5th (1997) season as a DC. KC was 2nd in yards in 95 and 11th in 97.

Those are the only times he's been top 10 in points allowed. He's ranked in the bottom half as much as the top half (8 times each). In 2009 he had the 32nd defense in yards and points and he's ranked in the bottom 10 twice as often as the the top 10.

There were no several top 3 defenses. Just two. Basically the entire NFL had his defense figured out after about 5 seasons and it was downhill from there.

I could understand this thinking in 2004 when KC rehired him, but not now. You gotta know what he is by now.
