I hope so but Mahomes targeting Skyy on the game losing interception can't help things. Not that it was Skyys fault or anything.

WUT?

As you even admit, it wasn't his fault so why would have it ANY bearing on his playing time going forward?

That's just silly.

Yes, Patrick seems like a guy who wouldn’t be able to distinguish between a play not working because of his failures rather than the receiver’s.

Where do you come up with this stuff?

Just from my viewpoint- if they are taught to flatten that route during those circumstances and Mecole did not flatten the route based on the current conditions that were mutually agreed upon beforehand to be a situation where he should flatten the route....he ran the wrong route.

Well, no one said that he was taught to flatten the route specifically. It's a vet move though. Sammy used to do it when he was here and saved a few drives in the process. And it was a staple for Tyreek.

What he didn't do was turn and go vertical, which he used to do his first year or so, because they did teach him to go deep when Pat scrambled. So you could call what he did progress.

But what he probably should've done was break off that over route and run straight down that yard line, thus flattening the route, maybe even earning himself another half yard to a yard of space between himself and the DB.

But think about it from his POV: in that exact moment he looked back at pat and saw him scrambling what he had to do in half a second or so was decide "Pat's scrambling but he's okay for another couple seconds, maybe I should turn this upfield and give him a deep target," or "Pat's in real trouble right now and I have to break this off and make myself a big target right now by flattening this route to the sideline."

Except he's running across the field, looking back at the play from 30 yards away, and he has to decide what Pat's thinking before you can read the first three words of this post.
