the NBA drafts off potential. Doke is going to eventually be a force in the NBA. Remember he’s only been playing basketball for 7 years. I think he leaves and gets drafted.

I'm not so sure about that. Doke was born in the wrong decade. The NBA doesn't value the bruising type of centers anymore. They want athletic guys who can defend the pick-and-roll and can shoot enough to draw defenders away from the hoop. Doke does none of those, and isn't even close.

I just don't see him ever being anything in the NBA. He is the complete opposite of what the NBA wants. He can't shoot, can't defend multiple positions, doesnt rebound well, doesn't block shots well and is really slow. If it was 20 years ago and you needed to guard Shaq, he would be interesting to an NBA team. How would Doke ever play against the Warriors? Withey is a better player in almost every way and isn't much in the NBA. I think there is a good reason no mock drafts have Doke going anywhere.

Go look at the thread during Embid’s year, many were saying no way Embid was going to be drafted. He needs another year. Just saying.

A little break from the norm
An excerpt from the book Beyond The Streak:
2007-2008: THE ULTIMATE PAYOFF Jeremy Case: That summer...we were going so hard against each other that it caused a little tension. There were a lot of arguments, a lot of fights... Sherron Collins: We were playing pickup and Darnell and Russ were arguing...and then D-Block started making fun of Russ. He said he wasn't a true New Yorker, that he was from the suburbs. That pissed Russ off. Jeremy Case: Russ found a line on the court and told Darnell, " C'mon...cross this line right here. I dare you to cross it." So Darnell crossed the line and swung at Russ. He missed, and then Russ swung back and caught him right in the jaw. Darnell stumbled back a little and then we broke it up... Tyrel Reed: Darnell didn't go to the floor, but Russ definitely staggered him. Russ started running around (celebrating) and pickup was done.

That cracked me up. I knew Russel Robinson was a tough SOB but I didn't know he was that tough. I mean, Darnell was a big man. That whole team was tough. There's some other stuff like that about Sherron and Sasha.

There is no comparison between Doke and Embiid. Doke has size and a very quick take off. Embiid is a transcendent, once-in-a-generation talent. For what it's worth, I do think Doke will end up in the NBA, but he's at KU for at least 3 years. Most likely all four, though.

The Raptors have a big named Jonas Valanciunas who has one of the best post games in the NBA (shoots around 60% from 0-10 feet), but he barely plays in crunch time and is hardly utilized as an offensive player at all. He came up in the wrong era. Could be the same for Udoka too. |
