Side note - on the issue of a downtown stadium -
I don't have a dog in the fight, not being a resident. However, were I a resident I think I would fall firmly in the camp of "Kauffman Stadium is already one of the premiere venues of MLB. Instead of the owner investing billions of taxpayer dollars into an unnecessary change in venue, why doesn't he invest millions of his own dollars into fielding a competitive team and participating at a competitive payroll?" |

Awesome game for Witt jr and Rivera. Lynch was serviceable.
I know this is a very gblowfish thing to say, but since ohearn got a pinch hit today, I’m looking forward to seeing his extension soon and him in the everyday lineup |

He got a pinch hit homer the other day, so I'd say it's a given.

Sure...so build it in the KS suburbs...or anywhere but Independence on the Missouri side. But avoid the cesspool of downtown. Would be a mistake within 5-10 years after it opens, IMO.

Cesspool of downtown? Have you been to downtown KC lately. Its growing like crazy. Great vibe and a ballpark would be perfect.

Could ask you the same. You DO understand that downtown revitalizations were cool circa early-2000's in most metro areas. KC has always paid a price when trying to catch up to trends. In contrast, the dual stadium concept was an example of KC actually being ahead of a trend. It's paid off for years. A downtown stadium would be a monument to the stupidity of chasing the fading trend. Downtowns are on the downturn, currently. And my cesspool comment is in reference to bad policies that tend to tarnish good-will projects in KC. Always seems to happen. Unless law enforcement has made a comeback in KC, nice downtown projects will be shiny until they're not.
Bottom line...if the idea is to perpetuate new generations of fans, you don't do it by building a circa-2000's trendy stadium among the childless gen-z and younger millennial masses. I'm a Missouri guy...but I'm cool with building in KS if that's best for the team and future.

Kansas City seems to have a lot of plans for building in and around downtown for something that, as you describe, is a thing of the past. Not to mention that the Royals moving downtown is going to happen and moving out to the suburbs in KS is not ever happening.
