Chiefs trying to trade Justin Houston
CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reports the Chiefs talking to teams about trading OLB Justin Houston.
We doubt they're successful. Houston turned 30 last month and carries an exorbitant $21.1 million cap hit. If the Chiefs don't find a trade partner, they're fully expected to release Houston, especially with Dee Ford likely coming back on either a big-money deal or the franchise tag. Houston's play has slipped in recent years, but he can be an effective sub-package rusher off the edge https://www.rotoworld.com/football/n...as-city-chiefs https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/n...carr-and-more/ https://www.arrowheadpride.com/2019/...justin-houston |

A bit of money to garner a solid FA or two, and in the case of a Berry cut, money that can be used to extend Hill and Jones. Landon Collins come on down.... |

If he goes, that will be another great player who gave us everything he had and wound up with nothing significant in his resume. No jewelry. Just a bag.
What a waste. FAX |

Whack 'em all. Sell Ford while the stock is high and keep Jones. Let the rest of it be built.

Houston is still better than Ford. His play rebounded once he was put on the line of scrimmage. Some team is going to pick him up for 8m and play him at DE. He'll give them 15 sacks every year.
Selling low, buying high ... it's the Chiefs' way. |

I think it's safe to say that's the plan. Kind of a gamble but if they yield fruit, Veach looks like a genius.

There is no way I can see the Chiefs bringing back Houston with that cap hit. He's unwilling to restructure without more guarantee's which makes since because it's a weak pass rushing market and he could get more in FA.
I'd be hopeful for a 3rd but it would probably be a 4th IMO. 30 YO 3-4 OLB that's showing signs of decline (still very good), has significant injury history and has huge cap hits over the next two seasons. |

From an arbitrary standpoint, it would be nice if Houston were a couple of years younger, but because he has proven he can still compete at a high level, I don't see how getting a 3rd should be a problem with the right trading partner.

Dont care. Just get this guy out of KC.
I literally cannot stand a guy who clearly has been overpaid the last two seasons and who refuses to restructure when it is so obvious this team is going all in for a SB next season. I'm thinking I want Berry out too. We all loved the player and the leader but he is another guy who played hardball when negotiating his contract and has proved not to be worth even close to what was given to him. Tyreek Hill is another guy who will be asking for a mega contract but at least he has given this team years of great play for peanuts and there is good reason to think he will give many more years of great play. Chris Jones will want his money too but he sounds more reasonable to me and he is so easy to like. |

This is why Le'veon Bell held out. Guaranteed money is the only real number to look at for a player. NFL teams can cut you whenever they feel like it. Treating players like a piece of meat. Callous!

If we hadn't signed that piece of shit Smith a year earlier than was necessary, we wouldn't even be having this debate. If you want to be mad at Houston, be mad that team chose to stupidly let him gamble on himself and come up a winner.
When they didn't have to.
