I didn't get to spend nearly as much time playing this weekend as I had hoped. I got a Trooper up to level 11, and had a great time playing. Everything was pretty much the same as my beta weekend in October. The only thing I noticed that was different was that there were now pictures for the tutorial messages.
I'm still trying to decide what class I want to roll at launch. Jedi Knight is what I had originally intended to play, but the Consular looks interesting, too. Dual-wielding lightsabers vs. double-bladed lightsaber. It's hard to make a decision, but the nice thing is that I'm pretty sure I'll have fun with whatever class I choose. There is one question I had... I noticed that sometimes a mob's nameplate would have what looked like a purple 'group' icon to the right of it. And by 'group' I mean a little icon that had three vertical lines with dots on top, looking like little armless and legless stick figures. And sometimes my companion had the same icon next to his nameplate. Anyone know what that icon means? |

Did my first flashpoint last night. Black Talon. Fun as hell. I love how the dialogue is with all the players together chiming in. Good balance of challenge and feeling like badasses. Not tedious like instances can often be. Look forward to the next one.

I really love the game, and I will definately be playing it. But I have to admit, the level of polish at this stage of development leaves a lot to be desired. Maps blanking out, memory leaks, shitty lag causeing the cut scenes to lack sound to movement or movement to sound. NPC's LFG, your casting bars constantly flickering or showing incorrect casting completeion percetages. Just all kinds of little BS things that should not even be issues but are. |

I'm not sure what the deal is. There were more problems with this build than the one I played in early september. I had 5 or 6 crashes to desktop this weekend, after never having even one in the previous two builds.
I never had any of the issues you listed, though. Other than the NPCs looking for group. But I had problems with both my characters getting randomly stuck in the environment on Hutta, and my crafting was bugged to all hell (I did biochem, which as it turns out has a major known issue - items bug out in my inventory and then my recipes vanish). Those and the afore-mentioned crashes were what I had to deal with. Nothing that would kill a launch for me, but more than I expected after my previous 120 hours ingame. I played sith warrior the entire weekend, a marauder, and while I really like the story, I really don't enjoy the class in combat all that much. Which is probably more about me not liking melee classes more than anything else. I played her up to, err, 22, I think. I also played an Agent up to 15 and loved that. (Still playing right now, they extended the test weekend by a day, if everybody doesn't know) |

Played this also during the weekend. I was thoroughly entertained, got 3 characters to 11 (wanted to see as many origin stories as possible). Grouping is well-done, flashpoints are a blast, and somehow they figured out a way to not make quests completely boring. I had already pre-ordered but now I'm a little more sure that I wont regret it. This is the most polished, close to finished product of any MMORPG near launch I've ever seen.
If anyone is on the fence for this game, consider this post to be my unqualified seal of approval. If you don't like this game, you probably don't like MMORPG's. There is nothing ultra-revolutionary, there's only so much you can do with an MMORPG, but they took what works, polished it, made a few innovative improvements (companions are a nice touch), and draped the star wars universe around it.

I generally have a lot more tolerance though, this would be utterly damning in a released single player or online shooter, but I've long accepted that a low level of glitches and bugs must always be tolerated in an MMORPG that gets updated every week.

Yep, patching always brings new bugs. It's a never-ending cycle.
For as many people as they brought in this weekend, I thought it was really stable overall. I had one server reset yesterday that had me out of the game for about 15 minutes. I didn't really have much lag the entire weekend. All of the problems I ran into were things I would attribute to the build rather than the server load. Of course, the experience may have been drastically different for people on other servers, it's hard to say. But I feel pretty good about the head start in 2.5 weeks, in terms of server stability. |

According to some on the forums, this build is not the most current build that they have, and is definately not the one that is going to release. This was more of just a test run, with an older build to give the servers a run for their money, and that was it.
I hope that is true, because I would hate to see the game go live the way it was this weekend. in any event, I will definately be there 12/15. |

Even the general beta testers don't get to play the most current build. They're usually several iterations behind the internal build. I'm curious to see just how different the launch build is from this weekends. In some ways it was drastically different than both of the earlier builds I played.
