*** Official 2017 Royals Offseason Repository ***

The reign is over. Time to begin the quest for the next one.

Interesting offseason opens for the Royals. Will they go all in for one last shot with this crew? Will they re-tool for 2018 and beyond? Will Dayton Moore actually decrease payroll this time?

Trades, free agent signings, rumors, plans, proposals... dump 'em all here, for this is... the offseason repository!

Royals Top Prospects, 2017

This is a list that’s going to seem a little bleak initially, as Raul Mondesi got enough ABs to age out of the prospect rankings (just barely – at 135 ABs, he is not rookie eligible). But that said, I like the talent and feel like this is a system that will actually be underrated by the prospect services.

Spoiler!

I'm surprised he and his agent aren't claiming "collusion" to keep him from the "money he deserves"

Lol what

@ChrisCotillo: Royals signed Bobby Parnell and Jonathan Sanchez to minor-league deals, per BA.

I did a double take and had to check baseball reference, but this is in fact the same piece of shit that eventually netted us jguts. I can't imagine he has a real chance at making the team, but just him showing up in uniform is bad pr.

He always has had great stuff and can miss bats. If you can find a way to get him to throw strikes, he could be a nice reclamation reliever project.

Parnell is a similar reclamation. He was a near-elite reliever until his injury, and could get back there. Key is getting his velo back. Speaking of velo...

Would guess this means Holland is out of the Royals plans, and honestly, that's probably a good thing at this point. I'm made nervous by how long it's taking him to sign and how cool his market is.

Sometimes guys just don't come back from TJ. See PB's favorite, Aaron Crow.

Not sure on Hochevar.

Not really bad PR. Most casual fans probably don't even remember who he is.

He was a POS pitcher who had one solid season from being "effectively-wild". Probably one of the luckiest seasons from a SP... ever. The worst that can happen is he still sucks then he's gone again, and with the Royals' recent track record with finding diamonds in the rough for the pen, there isn't much of a risk.

Like Duncan said, the guy could miss bats. Career 9.11 K/9, but an abysmal 5 BB/9. Still don't understand how he managed his 2011 ERA for an entire year.

Think DM thought they'd be able to lower that walk rate when they traded for him? Or was it a matter of getting rid of Melky before he got hit with the PED suspension (if they knew at all)? Wasn't into baseball until 2012 so I would be curious to learn.

Nick Carfardo with another good notebook:
https://www.bostonglobe.com/sports/r...0lM/story.html

Pedro Alvarez mentioned briefly as a KC option, still makes more sense to me if they do actually move Dyson.

Also mentions some KC interest in SP Jason Hammel, which is surprising. He's one of the better options available in FA. That would be a nice fit for KC, I think.

Not sure i like the jason hammel idea.... he was a crappy pitcher his entire career before finding a couple of solidly average years as a cubbie.

His breakthrough was in 2012. Has spent a lot of time in pitchers parks, but other than 2013 has been pretty good since then.

All depends on cost and years, but he would be a pretty solid back-of-rotation guy for KC. Misses some bats and does a good job commanding the zone. He also gets a good deal of ground balls and weak contact due to his height.

Would be very "good" Jeremy Guthrie-esque for KC, IMO. And give you 180 pretty solid innings. That's got value. Especiallly when the alternative is crossing your fingers on a rookie or Chris Young.

Explain the pitcher we traded. Seems we needed pitching, not another outfielder.

Was coming here to talk about this. Sneaky move for KC.

The pitcher is a nobody.

O'Brien is a bat-first guy who has put up really impressive power numbers. Arizona never did a good job finding him a home or consistent PT, and I think the shitbags they had running the show really handled him poorly.

O'Brien could end up being a really nice, cheap, DH option for KC moving forward. He's never going to play OF for KC, but if you squint, you could see him being a guy who hits .250-.260 with 20+ HR pop and decent OBP, especially if they can get him to tart hitting the ball the other way again.

He got really pull-happy with Arizona, possibly in an attempt to prove he belonged and stay in the show.

Great trade for the Royals.

I sometimes wonder if the GM of the Dbacks is trying to sabotage the organization here.
