Apparently someone doesn’t understand what restructuring means.

Beyond the obvious benefit to the team, by converting his roster bonus and even salary into a signing bonus, it could put more $ in his pocket today than under his current contract. Being the smart man he is, he will invest that wisely (accruing interest/gains/appreciation). A dollar today is worth more than a dollar tomorrow. The team may also be willing to increase the volume of guaranteed money over the life of the contract, further benefiting him. They were willing to give him $63 million guaranteed last year. At the start of the season, he will have been paid almost $33 million of that and effectively could be cut after the 2022 season with minimal heartache to our cap. We know that won’t happen, but tacking on another year or two of guaranteed money would be a pretty big incentive as a player. |

How about here-you do understand that converting signing bonuses and roster bonuses around on paper does not actually negatively affect the player's money right? Usually it means they get some of their later money NOW. Which is better than later. They're going to extend Honey Badger. You know, because we'd like to keep him. That frees up like $17m. also, there's a TV deal coming. Huge money. Also, all adults will be eligible for the vaccine May 1. So you can expect a much different season this year. Like...you're so uninformed, it's hard to even discuss this with you. I literally posted a video detailing exactly how we can afford this; and I guess it was...I don't know, too much work to watch it or something? |

They could probably afford another solid FA if they wanted to in addition to Williams. Look at our cap number for 2022 and beyond. We're in good shape. |

Look, I understand contracts just fine. Think about it this way: If it's incredibly easy to free up 46 million, why cut Fisher and Schwartz to free up 18? Wouldn't you rather "break open a piggy bank" and keep Fisher and Schwartz? I mean, maybe it's just me, but they seem like kinda important pieces to me, and cutting them Both only saves 18 million. Sure, you can maybe potentially upgrade one of them, I get it. But the issue last year wasn't that Fischer and Schwartz weren't good enough. It's that there wasn't adequate skill on the depth players at those positions. So if you want Williams, and can free up 46 million just fine, you could still have Williams and Niang and have Fischer and Schwartz as backups. Talk about a position of strength. Why not do that? The answer is, because you can't actually free up 46 million at will, it relies on the players being willing to renegotiate. Chris Meck, like every line you posted had at least one inaccuracy in it my dude. Talk to me on May 2nd. Or the day after they extend Mathieu. Or the day after the TV deal is signed. Or the day after Williams is signed, to whatever team he's signed to. We'll see who is uninformed |

*wait-you would need to renegotiate with Mathieu, for his extension. So unless he doesn't want to be here, and thinks he's going to get more money elsewhere, it should be no problem at all to extend him, spreading out his money over a three year span or so, lessening his cap number significantly in 2021. So yeah, that's kind of how that works. Last edited by Chris Meck; 03-11-2021 at 10:57 PM.. |
