I might have mis-read, but I thought Pat had a high ankle sprain on his left ankle. If that's the case, those can linger a bit longer than a more typical sprain. When I was in college, I sprained a few ankels, all but one of them the lower ankle type. Those, at that age and being in about the best shape of my life, took about 2-3 weeks to heal, tops.

The one high ankle sprain took 5-6 weeks; it just didn't want to go away for awhile.

Now, that was 30 years ago, and the team didn't have anything like the trainers, treatment regimens, and rehab that they have now. So I would guess that you could reasonably halve those times.

I'm guessing that Mahomes will sit at least three weeks minimum. A little longer as long as we split with the Packers and Vikings and take out the Titans. If we finish that week 2-1, and Mahomes ankle and knee aren't close to 90%, Andy might roll the dice that the team can beat the Chargers without him.

Guys correct me if I'm wrong but I have not heard that he had a high ankle sprain.. I thought it was a lower sprain and a low grade one... I would think it it was a high ankle variety he would have missed time...

Plus 24 year old men heal fairly fast...

There's both a ceiling and a floor for how long you hold him out. And I'd have to think even the most optimistic of people feel even a little skeptical that 10 days is nearly enough time to improve the injuries he's had. If we were do or die with a season right now, that'd be a different story. But knowing he will improve with every week and that we can maintain our dominant hold on the AFC West even with him out, I don't see why we should be in a hurry to bring him back.

What would you say if we go 2-0 and walk into Tennessee with a 3 or 4 game lead over Oakland?

Reid never ruled out Mahomes. You would think if he’s out 3-6 weeks he’d already be ruled out. But he said it’s a stretch for him to play. I bet he’s LP in proactive this week and probably be listed as Doubtful but not out
