That's good news, scho63. You may be aware of these statistics, but for the benefit of everyone else, here are the 5 year survival rates for melanoma according to cancer.net:

Primary site only = 99%
Involvement of nearby lymph nodes = 67%
Spread to other parts of the body = 20%

67% is a lot better than 20%, but for those who believe in the power of prayer or positive thoughts, she can use continued support.

Additional reasons for optimism from cancer.net:

If she had spread to other organs, she's Stage IV regardless. You can move up in staging, but not down. Any response is good, though.

My sister's surgery to remove some lymph nodes in her groin area went well yesterday and it appears that the skin cancer on her leg and in her lymph are completely removed.

Hopefully this will be it and never return.
