WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling visiting Chiefs on Wednesday

Didn’t see a thread.

Quote:

The Green Bay Packers might soon lose another pass-catcher.

Free agent receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling is in Kansas City visiting the Chiefs on Wednesday, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.

The Chiefs could be on the verge of trading away receiver Tyreek Hill, making Valdes-Scantling a potential replacement option as a deep threat for Patrick Mahomes. Hill wants a new contract but negotiations with the Chiefs have stalled.

The Packers have attempted to keep Valdes-Scantling after trading Davante Adams to the Las Vegas Raiders, but outside competition might be enough to push his price outside of Green Bay’s comfort range.

Valdes-Scantling is a far cry from Hill, a four-time All-Pro, but they have comparable straight-line speed. The Chiefs would be banking on Valdes-Scantling to help replace some of Hill’s production down the field. In 2020, Valdes-Scantling led the NFL in yards per catch and catches of 40 yards or more.

Over four seasons in Green Bay, Valdes-Scantling caught 123 passes for 2,153 yards and 13 touchdowns.

It’s possible Valdes-Scantling’s visit to Kansas City is an effort to force the Packers to pay his price to keep him, so a return to Green Bay can’t be completely ruled out at this point.

If Valdes-Scantling departs, the Packers would be left with Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb as the team’s top two receivers. Odell Beckham Jr., Julio Jones and Jarvis Landry are among the biggest names still available at receiver in free agency. The Packers would also be expected to use a high draft pick to add help at receiver.

He’s going to get his chance to eat, the catches are there to be had and Mhomes hasn’t had a weapon like this before. This type of size and speed combined with Mahomes’ arm, well the sky is the limit really.

If MVS can surpass Hill's production, then it's certainly the plan to take going forward with Mahomes... just sign fast guys with decent hands to smaller 1-2 year contracts.

Similar to the whole recreate Giambi in the aggregate in Moneyball. I think if they can get the over the top threat from MVS, the underneath from JuJu and the end around tricky dick stuff out of Hardman they’ll come close.

What? If MVS can surpass Hill's production?

That's not really a thing, is it?

Let him run the go routes and take the top off of defenses while JuJu gets the work underneath as they double Kelce.

hope nobody expects that, they are just in for let down. 700 yards would be a more realistic expectation with some optimism.

Definitely not the plan. MVS = speedy deep threat. JuJu intermediate. Kelce underneath. We've upgraded over Pringle and Robinson, but Hill was special. We are going to have to make up for Hill's departure by making the aggregate better.

Not in any universe.

MVS is basically Ted Ginn Jr 2.0. Very fast in a straight line, with just a little better than average change-of-direction-ability, poor hands and undisciplined route running.

Ju-Ju also has focus issues.

Some of you guys thought meek had route running/hands issues. Going to be a whole other level of circus in 2022 if these two play significant minutes.

And even if he somehow did match Hill's production, he STILL wouldn't have the impact Hill had. Hill's agility and acceleration, along with his top end speed, made him feared all over the field.

So, basically a 1 year deal for $4.8 million.

If he balls out this year, we'll happily pay the 11 million next year for him as our #2/#3.

If he flops, cut him and only costs us $4 mil. in dead money.

So 2 years, 18 million. (9 per, as was reported) is not accurate.

2 years, 8.8 mil. (if he sucks and we cut him before next year)

OR

2 years, $15.8 million (if he balls out and becomes a top target for Pat)

I can live with that . . . . . .

Hilarious that people have been using the raw numbers in comparison to Tyreek.
