This. There's a cub at the beginning. The cub is walking in the background and the mother is laying in the middle of the path. The guy keeps approaching until the mom decides he's come close enough and charges. There was no stalking about it.

After that he did good not to turn his back. But he needed to be yelling much louder and flailing his arms (not holding his phone to film) and trying to find branches or rocks to throw at it. But you have to be very careful crouching down for more than an instant or the cat could be on you like lightning.

Moral - do not keep walking towards a mother and cub. If you see two of them, one is a cub. These are not social animals. Same goes for bears. Apparently the guy is saying he thought they were bobcats. But still a bobcat defending its cub could **** you up. And the fact that the dude still has "stalking" in the youtube video title makes me think he's an idiot.

Big is for everything. At least if they're facing you trying to decide whether to attack you or not.

I had something similar happen to me with a grizzly bear. I just pulled out my glock & shot 2 shots in the air.

Grizzly took off running.

I thought the rule for bears is to be humble unless an attack is imminent, then get big if it's black, get small if it's not. I'm not sure, though.
