I'm actually glad Kasdan cut those scenes because as a viewer, it was more emotional not to see him that it would have been had we'd seen him, IMO. Plus, there were enough characters to follow and one more would have probably cluttered it up a bit too much.

I haven't seen Silverado in probably decades but as I recall, it was pretty awesome as well.
Silverado is awesome. It is cheesy and silly, and basically every western cliche thrown into a blender, but it's well made, beautifully shot, and has one of the best casts ever assembled. I particularly liked Brian Dennehy's performance as the evil sheriff who is so likeable that you can't ever really hate him.

I somehow missed that film in the theaters but saw it years later on HBO and thought it was a blast. I should definitely revisit.

The first time I became aware of Costner was No Way Out. He was so convincing and so likable, then that ending was mind-blowingly awesome! When Dances With Wolves was released, I saw it opening weekend and was completely blown away. One of these days, I need to watch his series on Paramount Plus.

And yeah, Dennehy was amazing in every role, whether he was a good guy or a bad guy. Dude was too cool.

Always remember him as Chris Latta. Not sure he even tried to differentiate Cobra Commander from Starscream.

He played a member of an alien race called the Pakleds in one of the worst episodes of Star Trek the Next Generation.

I'm not a big Costner fan but Brian Dennehy was awesome. I read a funny anecdote about him and his agent a few years ago on Twitter:

That's ****ing awesome.

Yeah they must have watched the opening of Last Crusade on the ship Indy escapes from and taken inspiration from that.

I guess. That scene wasn't too bad.

There are obvious limitations to what filmmakers can do portraying ocean storms. Especially in the days before CGI. I understand that.

Here are the things are that are wrong about that scene:

1. The boat isn't rolling or pitching, as it would be in a storm of the magnitude they're attempting to depict. They try to fake it by splashing water, but the water on the deck isn't moving from side to side like it would be in a real situation.

2. The waves shown after Indy goes overboard are no where near big enough. It is highly unlikely that he would have survived in a real storm bad enough to sink a ship that size.

3. This is kind of petty, but it's always obvious in movies like that that the water they use is fresh, not salt. Saltwater is frothy when it washes across an exposed deck. Freshwater isn't.

Here's a little reality. Been there, done that. At times, for days on end. (The title is misleading - no actual "battleship" is depicted.)

Nah. It's more annoying than scary. You have to tie everything down, and the stuff that you can't tie down slips and slides all over the place. Eating was a real adventure in high seas. As well as walking around. And of course when you're in a storm for several days people start getting really sick, so there's puke, and the smell of puke, everywhere. Imagine eating lunch when the guy sitting next to you suddenly hurls, and then five or six other people see it/smell it and blow chunks as well. Not fun. The North Atlantic was the worst. We made a crossing from Spain to Virginia in mid-fall once and were in nasty, heavy seas for a week. I never got sick, but I was on the verge when it finally broke. At that point about 90% of the crew was affected.

I guess there was one time that was scary. We hit a freak trough in the middle of the night and took a roll that just kept going and going; far beyond normal. We were in calm seas at the time, so nothing was tied down. So not only did shit fly all over the place, but some stuff that was welded in place actually broke loose. What a mess that was. Lots of broken equipment and some injuries. Found out later that we were only a couple of degrees away from capsizing.

Check this out, starting about the 1:40 mark.
