Darrel Williams

Looked pretty good yesterday.

Same reason everyone was saying not to worry about the RB situation in KC when Hunt was let go.

Maybe because you don’t always draft for need, especially late in the draft.

Darwin was an excellent pick on day 3. What an awful take.

Darrel was slow last year. Looks like he took his diet and exercise program seriously this Spring and it’s showing.

If only that fat **** Breeland Speaks would do the same

I think Darwin Thompson is a lot more versatile - and a lot tougher - than you're giving him credit for...

I posted before the Raven game that Darrell was going to surprise some people. He just looked different in preseason this year. Like the game has slowed down for him. His vision and quickness in preseason were things I just didn't see last year in his limited opportunities.

It's really odd, but a guy that we see as a '3rd down back' sort of player in Darwin actually telegraphs the play....as a run.

When they had him in for that series, I knew they were going to be running the football. It was a situation where you can't afford getting your QB hit and having it force a turnover. McCoy and Williams were standing there without their helmets on. He was clearly gonna shoulder several carries. My memory is that the Chiefs handed him the ball on every play he was in for over that stretch. Reid just doesn't trust him to do more than take the ball and run with it.

And as soon as Williams came back - the purported 'heavier' back - I turned to my buddy and said "this will be a pass..."

And sure enough, it was.

Reid does not trust Thompson in pass pro at all right now and I almost wonder if Reid doesn't even think he knows the offense well enough to be trusted in the pattern. If he's in the game, he's going to be carrying the football because Reid doesn't think he can manage to keep Mahomes from getting killed and/or be reliable enough out of the backfield to trust in crunch time. And man, he really does look undersized in person.

He was clearly not ready for prime time. Trying to hurdle a dude and then running OOB when his sole job was to get Baltimore to burn that last timeout was just the height of !@#$ing stupidity. I don't think he'll be getting a lot of run this year.

He looks more explosive quickly.

Last year he was a willing banger; someone that would have no problem using his mass to try to move the pile. Sunday he had a couple of runs where you saw him set up the tackler with a quick jab and then immediately square his shoulders to the guy and accelerate into him. He was more forceful even at impact because he was using his size and acceleration better.

I don't agree with Detox on this one - last year he looked like an adequate power back. Sunday he looked like Ware looked on his best days; shifty, smart and a just enough immediate speed to make his power that much more effective. It's that first step explosion and ability to get behind his pads that seems a step improved from last season.

Hey, I said I wanted to keep a power back dammit. And if Darrel turned out to be better than Hyde - go that route.

Lots of people wanted 'em both cut - I at least wanted to keep one of them and was willing to defer to the coaching staff on who they thought looked better.

But by week 4, Hyde had pretty much lost the job as much or more than Darrel won it. But yeah - he looked damn good on Sunday; a lot more explosion through the hole than I expected.
