In the 2nd half of the season, when he came back from injury, he had an .864 OPS in 97 at bats (including 7 HRs). That's obviously a small sample size, but 100 At bats @ .864 OPS is enough to demonstrate his potential. I thought we'd get more, but it's not like we just traded for Neifi Perez. |

We got bent over.
salary dump, lost 8 million per ... gain 3 million per seriously, Wade Davis with almost zero worth? Adding an outfielder makes way for Cain trade?

I love people being mad about it...what if the Royals had traded Wil Myers or Mike Moustakas for a closer straight up?
People would have been so pissed yet the Cubs just did that and somehow the Royals lose the trade...uh ok. |

I hope this trade will work out in the end. But, man, losing Davis has me depressed right now.

I'm not even in love with the trade (I thought Davis would return more), but you're glossing over some key considerations: First: Batting average is a shitty indicator in general and a really bad indicator for a power hitter. It gets even worse when you're talking about the BA of a power hitter. Second: Davis is certainly gone after this year if kept in KC. Apparently his medical file has some big red flags (or the return would have been greater). With that risk considered, there's no guarantee KC gets major value back for him at the trade deadline or at the end of the year. I wish the deal would have included at least another prospect or two (one good, one lotto ticket). I would have been fine doing it for Ian Happ instead (probably preferable to me, though Happ is a year away). I wish they could have done better. I don't believe they could have unless they had taken players really far away from MLB in return. Moore has a really good track record in major trades for guys like this (with some MLB service time). I'm still disappointed, but I don't think it's a bonehead undersell, and it could have a significant payoff. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Can't wait for Soler, Cain and Gordon to be on the DL at the same time.

@jazayerli: And the Cubs wouldn't have traded Soler for Davis after 2014 even with 3 years of control. Soler is a great post-hype sleeper. https://twitter.com/stillbigwill/sta...80642028912640

Or he will hit .238 again as a DH with limited HR's and we get to watch lots of blown saves- while Wade has the impact Ben did for the Cubs. Coin flip at best. |

Since we have Herrera we can spare one, and this trade looks even to me. 1 year of an elite closer with health concerns for 4 years of a former top prospect who is marginal defensively but has huge potential on offense. The fact that Wade had an injury scare last season probably harmed his trade value so this is probably about what he's worth.

fans of both teams hate the deal, which is usually a sign it was a pretty even deal. Quote:
Soler could hit .238 and break Balboni's record and be a well-above-average performer. Hitting .238 doesn't automatically mean a player is bad. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

But batting 238 suggests limits on the amount of homers and RBI he can generate.

I don't hate the trade as much as many here, but I don't think KC could "spare" a closer. The bullpen really struggled last year, bullpen was the key to the 2014-2015 teams, and the price has skyrocketed on relief pitchers since then so its not like they can go out and buy another.
