Oh yeah, my buddy netflixed XXX State of the Union the other day and I came in during the last 10 minutes. I don't think I'd ever seen that movie. It is truely amazing how horrible it really is. Like they have to put forth a genuine effort to make it suck as bad as it did. Somebody needs to die for the production of that movie.

Public Enemies was fairly lousy. What really stood out was a bunch of amateur-looking camera work. Really bothered me. Bored throughout.

I Saw the Devil - 9/10. As far as revenge movies go, no one has done them better than the Koreans, and this is no exception. From the same director as A Bittersweet Life and The Good, The Bad, The Weird, Kim Jee-Woon. It wouldn't surprise me if this is the guy that Tarantino will be "influenced" by in years to come.
The leads should look familiar if you've seen any of the cult classics from Korea in the past 10 years. Choi Min-Sik, who also starred in Oldboy, is completely awesome as the killer. In parts he is as interesting a character to look at as De Niro in Cape Fear as he just has that charisma and sliminess about him. It's a very entertaining bloodbath, probably one that will be rumored to be remade by a big US studio for the next 10 years. I highly recommend it. |

I watched an older documentary (I think it was made in 1989) called "Radio Bikini" via streaming Netflix.
Pretty interesting documentary about Operation Crossroads and (obviously) the Able and Baker shots. Had lots of footage from the guys on Bikini in 1946. Amazing what these poor SOBs were told by the Government/Superiors with regard to safety / fallout etc. I really enjoyed it; but I'm a big Cold War and Nuke buff. Also watched "Frontline: The Confessions", about 5 or so Navy sailors falsely accused and imprisoned for a rape they didn't commit as a result of high pressure interrogations. Scary sh*t, from the stand point of thinking "I'm innocent, I'm not going to jail"...yet being sent there for 10 years anyway. The first part exposes the 'false confession' aspect, and the 2nd part goes on to show how they couldn't have done it etc. |

Radio Bikini is a tremendous documentary. I've shown it in class before. The reveal of John Smitherman is one of the more disturbing things I've seen, and almost always draws a gasp.

I think we're seeing Insidious this weekend. Thoughts on this? Anyone else plan on seeing it? Also, Source Code?
