Settle Down: Look At The Chiefs Do When Games Really Count

We go through this every year. The team shits the bed in a nearly meaningless midseason game, and the board implodes. Some years it's defense, others it's Oline, this year it's our wide receivers.

Step back from your rage for a second. What has this team done over and over again when the lights shine the brightest?

They win almost every time.

The real season hasn't started yet. Trust the coaches and players who have won big games time and time again.

Last night was the first time in a long time I didn't feel like we were good enough to score on our final drive.

And what happened? Mahomes delivers a perfectly thrown deep ball to MVS that's dropped...

I was thinking the same exact thing.

He nearly pulled it off on 4th and 25. Ball a little too high in the rain for Watson to catch that.

The failure of improvement and actual regression is a real concern.

I think it would be silly to give up hope given that we have Mahomes and this defense, but there aren't signs that the offense's trajectory is headed in the right direction.

Hopefully the Raiders can be a get-right game in some respect.
Sure there are signs. Last night we had improvement against a good team. What is being lost in the shuffle is the fact that we were stellar on 3rd and 4th and short... STELLAR... I haven't rewatched the game having gotten back home so late, but there were at least 5 or 6 and we converted 100% of them. Thoney had a really good game. We ran the ball down a really good run defenses throat, even CEH had some good runs. It boiled down to a few plays. Mahomes pick on 1st down in the endzone, Kelce's fumble on first down in the red zone, Mahomes missing a wide open Kelce on a scramble to continue a drive, Watson dropping a ball on a 3rd down conversion, and the two holding penalties on pitchouts that seemed questionable that stopped drives. Drops and Turnovers this week, but guys were open, we did run the ball and we did convert on short yardage. If two of the 7 bad things above don't happen, we win by 2 scores and we are not even throwing that pass to "hands like a snake" MVS at the end of the game.

Nah... read my post above. Big improvements in the running game, most of the play calling in the first half, and we were Stellar on 3rd and 4th and short. Thoney looks to be getting healthy as well and had a good game. We play like we did 3 to 4 weeks ago on offense and we would have been destroyed last night.

I'm not giving up hope, but we have a very distinct Achilles heel at WR this year. In years past, we've had floundering defenses that have held us back, but we were able to overcome.

I'm mostly concerned because it reminds me of the team who lost to the Bucs in the Super Bowl - the O-Line was so, so bad and our defense was on it's last legs. Was it great to go to the SB? Sure, but now I expect to go and win it. I'm spoiled - having the greatest TE, QB, and possibly Coach of all time will do that.

Yes, we've only lost 3 games, but it's a trend that has been in almost every game this year. Other teams have their issues as well, and so we may be able to overcome.

But an injury to Pacheco and/or Kelce would be a deathblow to this offense, and I don't like how tight the talent margins are on Offense this year - I think this may be Veach's most regrettable year when its all said and done, though I hope to be wrong.

Same. BS. Game.

In the Playoffs Chiefs got it done.
The Chiefs aren't good enough to just go out and get it done in the Playoffs.

Could they win it all? Sure.

But you can no longer just count on this offense coming back from from adversity.

5 PPG in the 2nd half is definitely cause for concern

26th Points per Play in the NFL last 3 games, bottom of the barrel with teams mailing it in.

We all found the Kelce fumble frustrating but really, he moved to protect the football and was going to the ground, it was an absolutely perfect punch by the defender.

Yes, if you fumble it’s on you, but it was a great play by the defense.

The Mahomes Int, Patrick tried to get too cute. Saw some media guy saying Pat didn't see Byard. He did, that's why he tried to throw a high back shoulder to the WR (Watson?) and just missed the throw.

That's a run of the mill knee jerk reaction. Had MVS caught that ball we'd be saying 'typical MVS, ran down the long bomb to put the Chiefs on top!' That time he didn't so it's 'can't depend on these WR's!'

Truth is it's virtually the same offense we had last year. The difference is last year's team got embarrassed by CIN in the AFCCG and this year's team is the defending Super Bowl Champs. They're not bad, they're sloppy, and I think we can trust them to get it together in time before the the Playoffs start.

This loss helps us more than a win. We didn't NEED that game. (Eagles may have needed it a little more with DET playing so well.) We did need a wake up call, we needed to be embarrassed a little bit. Best to get that one in now.
