I'll echo the sentiment that there are a lot of bad takes in this thread. You can argue that Brees elevates Michael Thomas a little bit but he is in the top tier of receivers in the NFL. 125 receptions on 147 targets is beyond ridiculous.

Yes, Fischer and Watkins will be gone after this year. Paying Reek is not a problem. They may make the very tough choice of not signing Jones long term, which I think is a huge mistake but the chiefs will sign Hill before Jones.

Nothing personal here looch but........
which makes him even greater because all he gets are the No.1 CBs along with frequent double teams covering him week after week! What would the stats be for Hopkins if Brees were throwing to him ?? Nothing against Watson but he is still in diapers QB wise and prior to Watson, Hopkins had zilch at QB throwing to him and he still immensely produced. That is how good Thomas and Hopkins are by themselves IMHO. |

Hill's contract will have soooooo many "trigger out clauses" it will be embarrassing that we'll never know about.

No, I think if we win a SB this year, Brees will retire. If we fall short again, Brees may try to keep going till his arm falls off. If Brees does retire after next season, I expect Teddy to be the heir apparent and we sign him to a front loaded deal and see if he has what it takes to be the guy to continue to lead our young core. If Drew comes back, I expect Teddy to go for a starting spot elsewhere. |

2 years? Maybe, depends on what they do with their 1st this season. I could see it happening if they get a fatty with a good pedigree that they can get game-ready over the course of a season. But they're not putting a rookie LT taken in the late 1st on Mahomes' blind side. I think we'll see some extensions for Jones and Hill that don't have a large impact on this year's cap. So we'll see probably $15-20 million that rolls over into 2020. So let's conservatively start with a salary cap next season of about $195 million (fair given the recent escalations in the cap). Then let's add a $15 million cap credit for rollover and the Chiefs will be looking at a 2020 cap of $210 million. They have a present cap commitment next season of roughly $183 million next year. Add another $7 million or so for draft picks and that gets you to $190 million. Now come the cuts: The Chiefs could clear a hair over $30 million by cutting Watkins, LDT, Sorensen, Erving, Wilson and Colquitt. That would get them down to $160 million in total commitments with a $210 million cap to work with. $50 million gets Hill and Jones into the budget pretty easily and gets you started on the pro-rated signing bonus you'll need on Mahomes. Moreover, those are all relatively conservative estimates. The Cap could be $200 million on its own given recent increases. The Chiefs could see a $20 million cap credit instead of $15 (or more, depending on some moves they make this year). At that point they'd have been sitting on $60 million in available cap to fit Jones/Hill and some veteran reinforcements in. Will that be enough to keep one of Fuller/Breeland? Can they bring back Lee or will they have faith in O'Daniel? If they've cut LDT, has McKenzie stepped into the starting gig or will they need a FA replacement? In either event, 2020 won't be a problem, IMO. And in 2021 they probably move on from Mathieu, where they could save $15 million by letting him go. Okafor's a possible cut by then, Hitchens could be cut by then, Fisher's cap hit is down to $11.5 million, which is extremely reasonable for a veteran LT. They'll be able to make it work, especially if there are accommodations made for QB contracts, which the NLFPA seems to be pushing towards. The issue will be the depth around all those guys. If you're building a stars/scrubs roster, you'd better be nailing those draft picks. And you'd better stop !@#$ing trading them for the privilege of burning more cap...

Anyone that thinks Fisher is getting cut is dense.
Like DJ there said, you want real cut candidates? Sorenson, Colquitt, LDT guys like that are real options for it, if LDT gets hurt again... |
