Kansas City has one good sports radio show, IMHO: The Program with Soren Petro. Petro is serious about research. He's a brilliant guy respected by national personalities. I listen to his podcasts rather than suffering through a minute of KK and 610. I take that back-- I occasionally listen to KK to hear him whine. He's one of the most unprepared hosts I've ever heard, save discussions about K-State. The thing is, he's bright and understands broadcasting. But he doesn't respect his listeners. He tries to set up teams and/or players for failure by pumping them up for the sole purpose of tearing them down if they don't meet his phony expectations. He positions himself as fair hoping to get the chance to stick a knife in a player's or team's back. It's so childish and every one knows he does it. He's doing it right now with Mahomes-- and to Petro's credit, he called it out on air. Didn't mention KK by name, but described it in detail leaving no doubt. Petro even said it was a technique, meaning it wasn't a one time thing.

I hate to see anyone lose their job, especially one who has a history with cancer. Hope Danny finds something he enjoys. He's a good guy, an excellent reporter, and loves sports. Unless there are more cuts than just Danny, then this isn't a good look for WHB.

If they really want to save money, let KK go and give his show to Joshua Brisco. He's a young, rising star (I know his politics drive some away but he's an insanely talented and entertaining sports broadcaster. )

Well said. I think there are unsaid tensions at the station. Petro continuously gets angry at things he hears "some people" are saying. But most of them are very specific comments from KK. I think it's why Peteo does so many remotes. He doesn't like to be at the station.

Unfortunately, Kevin can't get fired. I could see him getting tired of hosting soon. Brisco or Tapp are the most likely to take over. I do find KK fascinating to listen to. He's as humorless as a person can get. He hates KU with a white hot passion. He's very right wing, yet seems to love socialism in sports. His Royals takes seem to be aimed solely at his mom. Just very interesting.

The monotone wasn't as bad as the way he'd suck the joy out of all sports. Dude was a total downer who seemed to barely be a fan of KC sports.

WHB has had a history of cash flow problems. I know they have struggled to make payroll at times. They incurred a lot of debt when they picked up the Royals years ago and had to buy the FM station so they could meet the coverage area required by the contract. I think you will also find that ad spending is down in general.

This is probably why Petro hates the Chiefs PR department so much. Why are they paying to have these guys dick them around for 25 minutes of Alex Smith ball washing very week on between the lines?

Also, KK can absolutely be fired. He doesn't own the station. He has a stake in the station. For God's sake... Steve Jobs was pushed out of Apple at one point.

I agree with a lot of the sentiment on here: Danny is very smart and is a great baseball analyst. But he absolutely has hit a point where he expects absolutely nothing good to happen ever. He's been beat down by KC sports, which I would understand if the Royals hadn't just won a championship.

Petro is the best, by far, and it isn't close. I listen to literally every Chiefs related podcast and most of the college basketball ones. I find the Royals coverage just sad, because of how monotonous bad baseball is.

Briscoe is great and I'd like to see him get a bigger time slot.

I don't care that Clink is leaving one way or the other, because I have maybe listened to one total hour of BTL in three years. KK is insufferable.

Exactly. Not a fan of Keitzman at all, but Fescoe is worse. Makes listening decisions real, real easy. Border patrol in the AM, and Cdot in the afternoon.
