-- Let's talk about counting calories & routine

Hi Guys,

I'm up to a 36 waist - thanks to Del Taco and a few others. As well as eating pretty poorly over the last year, or so.

I'm on a strict regimen now and doing a three week diet and then merging it into a new way of life. I have a history of eating well (normally) - but, again; have been quite clumsy over the past year or so.

My plan is to limit myself to 1100 calories a day the first week, then up to 1200 the second week, and then stay on or around 1500 calories as the norm, with one cheat day per week.

After the third week - I'll get back into some sort of exercise, which too will be part of the new 'way of life'

In this thread I'd like to discuss food ideas for assisting myself (& others) with weight loss.

Since Monday I've not gone above 1100 calories/daily - I have eaten oatmeal, oranges, bananas, hard-boiled eggs and in closing, in the evening - I'll eat one of the Chick Fil A Spicy, grilled chicken wraps w/o dressing (350 cals)

I'm open to ideas - but the goal is - finding items that are a little less common and more creative.

Please assist at your leisure - anyone else need assistance or interested in jumping aboard, I welcome it.

Thanks again

The best thing I can recommend is a two week fast.

6 Days only water, vitamins, and high sodium sports drinks.

Eat a normal "raw" (grilled or baked meats, same for veggies) meal on day 7. Eat the same again if your stomach allows it.

Then repeat.

Of course this is (IMHO) for people under 50, no diabetes, no serious medical conditions...

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

Yesterday, I mixed up some nonfat Greek yogurt with some ranch mix and dipped carrots in it. Sometimes I'll do eggs and a piece of fruit. A big plate of plain potatoes is a another good one (you can eat a lot of potatoes for 500 calories and potatoes are extremely satiating).

I'm a noob at nutrition and calorie intake but it seems to me that a daily 500 calorie intake for more than a few days would adversely effect your health. How does your diet work and not effect your health?

Somethings that I'd suggest you fellas look into that have helped me with meal prep are:

A crock pot and a blender. You can make a few days worth of shit in the pot just throw it in there boom done. With a belnder add some milk, PB and whey protein you have yourself a nice morning shake and helps hit your macros.

I'm not doing a daily 500 calories. I do 500 calories one day and then eat over maintenance the next (called alternate day fasting or ADF). The 500 calorie day provides the deficit and the higher day convinces the body that you aren't starving yourself. Studies show that ADF is better than daily calorie restriction at preventing the metabolic slowdown that happens when you diet for a long time. Studies also show that, for a lot of people, it is easier to stick to ADF than to daily calorie restriction.

My target yesterday was 2500 calories but I only managed 1900. Today is my big day where I don't bother to count calories and eat what I want so I'll probably make it up.

I was disappointed yesterday when I was still at 218.2 lbs but I dropped today to 216.6 lbs, even after an up day, so I was pleased.

How many calories I'm shooting for today. I'm not sure what I'm having yet. It will probably depend on when I get hungry.

Strangest thing (for me). I'm 71 now, 6'2" and weigh around 245. Got the dreaded Diabetes 2 nearly 6 years ago. About 4 months ago I started losing weight. Wasn't doing anything out of the "ordinary" - ate pretty much what I wanted. Still the weight was coming off.

I went from 245 to 200 in the 4 months. Saw my Doctor, he couldn't figure it out - but was happy. Went to my Endo and she said the same thing - tested me for Cancer (My first thought as well) and nothing.

Today? Weighed again - 198.........Naturally, I don't eat like I used to (Stomach is smaller) and I feel GREAT! So to hell with it...I guess that in 10-12 months I will just blow away..

Not knocking it, however. I'm thinking about writing a book titled "How I Did It"...but shit, It would only be one page.....

It might not be cancer but something is causing you to drop the weight. If l was you, I’d get a 2nd opinion on why the weight loss is occurring despite no changes in health or lifestyle.
