Is it time to move on from Toub?

The Chiefs special teams have been one of the best in the NFL over the past few years, but this year they have been as bad as I can remember in a while. Is it time to move on from Dave Toub or is this on the players? Both? I know there really isn't a lot that can be done right now and I'm not sure firing Toub in the middle of the season is the right decision either. But I think there needs to be a change made in the off season.

If this is already a part of another thread, or already has its own thread, mods can delete. I didn't see it anywhere but also didn't peruse everything thread.

Is it? If I'm ST Coordinator, I'm reminding the entire kicking unit that the snap count needs be different. And I'm damn sure telling my punt returner NOT to catch a punt inside the 5 yd line AGAIN. Yeah players have accountability... but so do coaches.

Do veteran QBs have to be told by the OC to change or go to a hard count? No they know to change it up. They know that they might get someone to jump.
If you think they have not told him that then your thinking is wrong. I am sure that has been told to him time and time again. And before you say well then you take him out the question becomes who you putting back there because it is not going to be Hill? The ultimate answer is a lesser player. People are already calling for Toubs' job. It would only be worse with lesser talent.

Oh really? So you were in on those conversations? Did you see Toub talking to Hardman AFTER the last time he caught it inside the 5? That conversation should have happened right before Hardman went out on the field...not after or just in practice. Hardman obviously needs coached up in situational awareness. I'm not advocating for Toub to be fired. But he needs to step it up as a coach, not just a coordinator. And the ST players need to know that their employment depends on their performance.

I think it's a combination of the head turn and a silent count. I'm pretty sure the LS has a verbal to the protection as he snaps it. But if you use head turn, one thousand one, one thousand two every freaking time, the guys on the ends are going to get a jump. Try snapping on one thousand three once in awhile.

Chiefs returns average 22 yards/return. I haven't checked, but I'd bet real money that that is among the best in the league.

"Oh, we haven't scored a TD on a return this year!" Shut the hell up. That's not a thing. Spoiled idiots. We scored a lot on punt/kick returns BECAUSE WE'VE HAD GREAT COACHING ON SPECIAL TEAMS, DIPSTICKS.

While it's nice to score on a return, NO ONE IN THE LEAGUE ACTUALLY EXPECTS THAT. You want decent field position. Period.

Most of the time, that's what we get, which is all we should expect.

Yep: attention to detail and situational awareness. This last game, Special Teams seemed to be lacking both from key players & coaches. I'm hoping this served as a "wake-up" call for Toub & the players. No more missed extra points, botched/blocked field goals and FEWER penalties. Faiders play the Bengals on Sunday, at home. Chiefs really need to find a way to beat the Dolts on Monday night. All hands on deck.

Is that on a kickoff return? If you field it 3 yards deep in the endzone that makes the return to the 19 barring a stupid penalty. Wouldn't it be better just to take the ball at 25? I'm pretty old school with my math but I believe the 25 is better than the 19.

THIS! Trust your own eyes. The DVOA on the Chiefs Deturds was 11th going into the Titans game. Did THAT unit Sunday look like the 11th ranked defense to anyone???

If Toub got fired, the team wouldn't skip a beat.

He provides zero value.

You morons realize it's still a top 10 rated unit right???

The NFL has neutered returns and will punish you with flags for even attempting one anymore...
